Hi, all.

For the second time this year the brass float has popped free in my tank. The last time, when I drained and pulled the tank, I found that not only was the float rattling around in the tank but also the filter from a prior sending unit. I figured that perhaps the two had collided, jarring the float loose. But this time I'm certain that there was nothing else in the tank. I'm also certain that the float is detached because I can hear it bobbing against the top and corners of the tank.

Any suggestions for a sending unit that has the float more firmly attached or other methods of securing it?

You could solder the float to the wire.
The wire is small and the float is thin so it wouldn't take a high amp solder iron to do it. Tin it first.

Thanks. I'll try that. It may be time to buy a new iron.
