Hey I was wondering if any of you guys from florida are auto technicians. I am from NY currently working at mitsubishi but have worked for Ford for years. I was wondering what the pay scale in florida would be thinking about moving. Somewher from mid florida or mid-eastern FL. I am a strong c tech, do basic maintnance, tuneups, electrical diagnostics. I do drivability problems, and all that stuff, have helped pulling motors and have done some trans/rear end romovals myself. Pretty well rounded, any Idea what kind of pay I might be able to make? Thanks

John

Same here, I am in the Atlanta area but thinking of moving to Florida, also an Auto tech but I work at a independent. I am sure like any place else, it depends on where you work. Miami-Dade I bet pays very well, but out in mid central FL it' probally isn't that good.

The pay is as good as your creditials. They pay here based on your qualifications, ASE, and factory training. You could be a moron, screw everything up, and make more then a guy without papers saying he can do it.

There are many factors to it and it can vary dealership to dealership but I would guess $15-20 an hour range. Florida is not that great when it comes to a pay scale for techs down here.

So some places there pay salary? I thought credentials just got you in the door. If I had less credentials, but did a lot more and better work than a guy that had the credentials, and he was making more money, I would just tell the employer to give me a raise or I would leave, and if they chose the other guy that would just be bad buisness. Where I work, you get paid for what you do, but credentials are good as well. The credentails get my hourly status higher, but that is not where I make my money.

Creditentals get you in the door and a higher start pay. Guys that have been at the dealers a while get the gravy and the good service writers. Always get a chick service writers... they can sell to a hooker. The pay here is ok. Just ok. Depends on what and how fast you do your job.

My guys get 17-25 per hour turned depending on their experience. This is at a L-M dealer, should be much of the same in all of Central Florida. Most likely more around the Metro areas but the cost of living is higher there.
Be careful wanting to work for Ford as a tech. The last few years Ford has been raping the techs through times paid for labor ops. All car makers do it I'm sure but Ford REALLY seems to be good at it!
