What is the deal when living down there? Do you just use a windshield cover to reflect the sun or is a dash cover a must? I really don't want a dash cover since they are tacky as hell but the sun down there is murder. How do your dashboards hold up?

Park in the shade

after about a month of using the window shade it gets old and just ends up sitting under the passenger seat.

I agree, the "dash carpets" are tacky

I live in Phoenix, AZ, valley of the sun...I haven't put a dash cover on my '88 notch, or my '97 SHO since I moved down here last June, I think they look stupid. I haven't had any problems yet. Just make sure and keep the dash "lubricated" with Armor-all or Black Magic etc. Use the "shaded" parking whenever possible.

Never had a dash crack

I lived in Florida until I was 17. I returned in 1999. I have never used a dash mat or a sunshade and I have never had a dash crack. EXCON, you certainly seem like someone who is fanatical about your vehicle. i am sure you will keep protectant of some sort on the dash and that should be good enough. I suspect the new plastics/rubbers used for dash material are a bit more resilient than those of yesteryear.

I lived in florida from 84-88 and have lived here ever since 1990. I havent had a problem with any dash cracking. Like others have said nice pair of dark shades, dark tint and you are good to go!

The windows are tinted and the dash is lubricated with Meguires' and I also use a sun shade. All the above seem to work.

You can put colorless UV film on your windows.

I don't have a problem with the dash cracking etc. but it is garage kept and I try to park it in the shade when possible. I'm probably not a good example because I usually get a new car every year.

FYI: Maguires is VERY GOOD at marketing AVERAGE products. Kinda like BOSE stereo equipment. Best product for protecting vinyl is Vinylex, from the makers of Lexol. Full UV protection for the dash!!
