Anyone have this cat-back?? How does it sound? Pictures of the stainless tips??

I have the American Thunder cat-back on my 5.0 LX and love how it sounds. Now i want to put it on my Gt but want to hear it first. I checked out mustangexhaust.com but they have poor sound clips.

Apparently, the mufflers now on the cat-back are the Super 40's style 2-chambers.

I have a set of the original 40 series mufflers used, but still in good shape, but i wanted to go with an entire cat-back in case i decide on future mods, but will they sound different?

Also, anyone have pics of the tips? I have a set of Mach 1 exhaust tips just in case they are not that impressive.

The AT catback on an 03 GT will not disappoint...the classic sound you know and love. By the way, as you probably experience before, the sound 'loosens up' with time, getting better with age.

Well, i already have this cat-back for my 5.0 so i was all set to order it for my '03.

When i put it on my LX, i found the kit was bent perfectly as everything lined up exactly where it was supposed to be. It fit 10X better than the MAC cat-back it replaced. Sound was similar, but the flowmaster sound (especially with off-road H-pipe) was a much nicer sound.

Of course, i won't be swapping the H-pipe anytime soon, so i'm expecting it to be louder, but nothing crazy.

How is interior drone? The drone doesn't bother me that much, but just curoius as to what people were hearing with it.

I have it on my 01 GT and it sounds good. I should have the 1 chambers welded in HOPEFULLY sometime this week.

I was afraid of drone as well but it hasn't bothered me yet. I do almost 200 mile trips to see my gf and it never gets annoying. My gf complains sometimes that it's too loud.

I have the Super 40's/ProChamber combo on my 02, but used to have the Flows with the Stock H. 5.0's sound a bit different from 4.6 but it's not that big of a deal, they should sound pretty much the same.
With the ProChamber that drone gets kind of annoying after a while but even then it's not that loud, just gets kind of old.
With the Flows on the stock H I got no drone, or none that I could hear.

Are you guys having an easy time removine the stock cat-back?

I would kinda like to take it off in such a way that i could sell it seeing as it is practically brand new with zero corrosion or rust. Maybe i can recoop some of my cost by selling it off to a V6er.

Can you get the tailpipes off the mufflers without cracking out the sawzall?

I just took my stock catback off two days ago when I put my SLP on. I had to break out the sawzall and cut right behind the stock mufflers and then un bolt the rest.

I onlt saw the complete set for $170. I already have the radio bezel peice so i only need the shifter trim.

Ford wants $190 for it.

Trying to find one used but it's very difficult. I missed one that sold for $50.

I paid $50 for the radio bezel peice new from CJ pony parts (sold through Ebay) but have been having a hard time finding the silver IUP lower shfter trim.

Back to this thread. I ordered the cat-back last night. It should be here tuesday and i'll prob install it next saturday. Hopefully i'll notice a good performance gain as well (but i am doing this manily for the sound) and will hit the track one last time before it closes.

without a midepipe change don't expect too much. it will have a good tone but volume will not be insane. swap the midepipe and then you will be all smiles.

If you like flows you should love it. I am sick of flows so I think bassani, borla sound way better. that obviouly is opinion though some people just love flows though. I hear them too much. I used ot be a flow guy. Borla changed my opinion.

one thing I can not understand is on an 03 you have stainless exhaust. if you switch to flowmaster you replace a stainles with alumized. I will never really understand this. I would just get stainless flows and weld them in even if I like flows.

Here are some pics of the tips:

Here are some sound clips I took also. The viedo camera kind of surpressed the sound level when it got louder, so it doesn't really sound true. It's much deeper and more rumbly down low and up high is screams.

You need to drop the rear end a bit to get the full cat back out intact.
