Flowmaster Tailpipe Logo, How can Remove It?

I just received my Flowmaster catback system with the stainless tips (17214 – Force II). I was really disappointed to see that they write their name in HUGE letters on the sides of the tailpipes. This isn’t shown in any of the Summit, Jegs, or Flowmaster homepage photos. Part of the reason I went with FM was because their tailpipes look more like the stock tips than other systems (stealth!). I haven’t seen this before on other FM systems so this must be something recent.

Does anyone out there know how to remove their name from the exhaust tips? I think a scotch bright pad will ruin the polished stainless finish, so I’m hoping that there’s a chemical or something that can take it off.

I would appreciate hearing about someone else’s experience with this one. I'm really bummed out about this since they just raised the kit price from $350 to $500 !!!! Now I wish I had just gone with Bassani.

if i'm not mistaken,the logo is etched in,not a sticker or paint of some sort.how big is the logo?i've got the american thunder system and the logo is hardly visibily unless your looking for it.

Get Mac, or Dynomax tails. Problem solved.

The logo is laser estched into the tailpipe.

I'd go StangGT1995's route and get some different tailpipes. I had MAC's on mine and they looked awesome, not too mention they had the 3 in. tips.

You would have to do alot of work to grind down enough, then you have to polish the hell out of it to somehow "renew" the stainless. I'd get different tailpipes.

Do the MAC pipes line up to the FM mufflers or do they need modifications?

Besides the stock look and the FM sound, I went with this system since it's supposed to compatible with the MM panhard rod (future upgrade). Do the MAC pipes clear that as well?

I started looking at stainless tails in Summit last night, and I might just cut off the FM ones and weld on different straight sections. The only bad part is that I would have to make my own hangers, but round stock isn't that expensive.

The tailpipes should connect to the mufflers no prob., assuming that both your FM and say the MAC kit both have mufflers that are offset inlet/offset outlet etc.

A guy comes into our dealer a few times with an 04 Mach 1 with Flowmaster mufflers and Magnaflow tailpipes, looks like it came that way.

Do you know if MAC laser etchs their name into their pipes, or they leave them alone? I'm trying to keep a really sedate/clean look on mycar and visable logo's from the outside kind of blow that approach.

I just checked the MAC site and htey have a 100% stainless system that looks pretty nice. Plust it has 3.5" tails. I sent them a message to see if it's possible to buy the pipes alone.

PS. I contacted FM before I bought the FM system to see if I could buy the 2-chamber mufflers from the American thunder kit seperately, just in case I put the cats back on and need to up the exahust noise at the otehr end. They said that it's not possible to buy replacement parts from the kits. You buy it all piece by piece. I was hoping to avoid having to setup and weld on the flow tubes seperately. I'm very disapointed with their service and quality so far.

Yes, but they're chrome, not stainless. My catback is Mac flow tubes and tails with Flowmaster mufflers. After 9 years, it's due for replacement though, since both the tails are rusty as hell and pitted. The mufflers are also rusted up quite a bit, too.

If your trying to go stealth wouldn't you think the sound of the mufflers would give it away before the etching on the tail pipes

StangGT1995: Check out the MAC website. It looks like they offer stainless tails now. I remember looking at their stuff years back and I always wondered about the chrome - I guess you confirmed my suspicions. They are probably switching for that very reason.

If I don't hear back from them Tuesday morning, I'm going to call them up directly. I'm really thinking now that the best bet to resolve this is to get the MAC stainless tails since they should already have the hanger in place. Then I'll cut down the flowmaster tails to weld in the MAC's. This shouldn't be too bad since it's all on the straight section.

Redline: The sound issue is why I went with the 3-chamber system. They're pretty tame at idle and light throttle, but come alive at WOT. At that point the stealth is blown anyway.

1-5/8 FRPP shorty headers, off road bassani X pipe, Laurel Mountain Mustang 2.5" flow tubes, Dynomax welded ultraflow mufflers, and flowmaster tail pipes. I bought my tail pipes a year ago and they too came with the flowmaster name etched into them. My exhaust is too loud for my taste now though and I may start looking for a way to quite it up.

I had the same problem w/ my system being way to loud. I put a Catted X on and it solved the whole issue.

I was lucky enough to just buy an old set but they are brand "FM" tails off from someone for the same reason the damn logo.

Personally I'd just polish it out. If you cant bring it to a local shop before you put em on. I cant see them charging more than 5o-75 do do it.

Stock mufflers probably flow better too.
