Mmk, got another t-5 swap question...I got pretty much everything that i need except the flywheel and pressure plate bolts. I'm gonna check the junkyard again in a few days, but I was trying to just get a new set of each, and it seems to be impossible to find the right ones.

Does anyone know the size of each bolt and where I can get them? Called Ford and they said $8/piece for the fly bolts and $7/piece for the PP bolts...Much as I want to pay $90 for bolts, that just isn't happening. I've tried searching around to find the correct size, and mostly what I've come up with is the flys are 7/16-20 x 1", and the pressure plate bolts are 5/16-18 x 1". Most places I find these though say they are a general Ford bolt size and some say they are for the V8s, but I can't find anything specifically pointed to 4 cylinders.

I ordered a set of PP bolts made by Mr Gasket w/those dimensions part# 911, and the size seems right, but the thread pitch looks like it is smaller on the flywheel, and the bolt doesn't seem to want to go in. Obviously I don't want to force them in and screw up the threads, but are these notorious for having difficulty going in at first? I'm gonna see if I can get a set of flywheel bolts made by Dorman tomorrow and see if those work at all, PN 710-123 I believe.

Anyway, can anyone confirm or deny those sizes, or heck does anyone have any extras lying around? Thanx!

for some reason that doesnt sound right. I know both bolts are metric. Cant remember what size though. I DO know that the Flywheel bolts are longer then the automatic flexplate bolts, You DO NOT want to use the flexplate bolts. Find a manual junkyard car and get the bolts when you pull the flywheel off.

I did hear metric from a couple sources. Only metric size i ever heard was M8 with 1.5 thread pitch and like 1" long or something for the flywheel bolts. Gonna grab one of those at work tomorrow and see if it fits correctly to at least get the size. I'm just nervous about using bolts that weren't actually made for that particular purpose to hold the flywheel and pressure plate. Images of turning my flywheel into a circular saw are dancing in the back of my mind, lol.

They are indeed metric.

The flywheel bolts can be bought from Jeg's or Summit. The ARP part number is 151-2801. They're listed for a 2.0L, but they're the same as the 2.3

The pressure plate bolts are M8x1.25 size and pitch. I used 20mm long, grade 10.9 bolts with lock washers. Worked great, although the bolts could have been a tad shorter. Got the PP bolts at AutoZone

Ok, interesting new development...I pulled the pressure plate bolts from a stang in the jy. Went to go test fit them in the new flywheel...They will bolt into the outer circle of holes, but not the inner circle. And my pressure plate only aligns with the inner circle of holes. The flywheel and clutch kit are from Advance Auto Parts (no mean comments, I work there ;-). The only difference between the two sets of holes are the thread pitch. I tried the M8X1.25 as suggested earlier, and they did exactly the same thing that these stock bolts are doing, only going into the outer set of holes. The inner set seems to be M8X1.0

Does it sound like I have the wrong flywheel or pressure plate. Should the pressure plate be lining up with the outer holes?

What did you get the flywheel/PP for, a n/a 2.3 or a turbo version?

Got both for a n/a 2.3. Looks like the flywheel might be drilled for both n/a and turbo?

Kinda sounds like it might be. I've never seen a flywheel with both sets of pressure plate bolt holes in it. The reman house may have drilled it for both. With there being fewer turbo cars produced than N/A, it seems logical from a production standpoint to just drill N/A cores for the turbo pressure plate size and ship them as such since all else is the same.

The N/A reman I got from AZ (used to work there part time) only had the N/A holes drilled in it.

Well now wait a minute. What about the pressure plate dowels? Where are they? The dowels aren't in the same location or at least I don't believe them to be. I doubt it since the plates are different.

The dowels line up perfectly with the pressure plate. They actually came w/the flywheel. It does look like there are double dowels holes though.

Bell, you mean ARP sells a stud setup for pressure plates?

Actually I'm getting some ARP Flywheel bolts from Summit on the way (thanx RustBucket for the part number!). I'm holding onto the stock PP bolts that I pulled and I'm gonna see if a TC clutch will just line up on the outer bolt holes and that way I can use those bolts and have a better clutch anyway ;-). I am correct that a 88 TC clutch will bolt right onto the stock flywheel right and fit inside the stang bellhousing right? I think that's the one I saw in stinger's article.

I think the 88 TC clutch is the same as the SVO clutch meaning that it's slightly larger than an N.A. clutch. The flywheels are the same diameter just the pressure plate bolt pattern is different (as you've already discovered). With you having a dual pattern flywheel (that still amazes me), you should have no trouble bolting either clutch to the flywheel. Just line up the plate on the flywheel to make sure you get the dowels in the right place. You did say the dowels came with the flywheel seperately right?

Yea, the dowels came with the flywheel, and as with the bolt holes, there's 2 sets. I looked at a pic of the TC clutch in the AAP system and the holes on that pressure plate look like they'll line up w/the outers on the flywheel. I'll have the clutch tm, so I'll report what I find when I get home.

Got the TC clutch in today. Pressure plate lines up with the outer holes and dowels beautifully . Now I can use those stock bolts I got, and as long as the ARP flywheel set is the right size I'm ready to go! So, i guess for anyone else doin the swap that might read this, Perfection flywheels are not drilled for N/As correctly! The only thing that kinda sucked abt the TC clutch kit was it came with a release bearing that was plastic on the outside...Lame. Anyway, thanx for the help guys!
