Is there any way to tell whether it is a 6 or 8 bolt setup w/o taking the tranny out?

All 4.6 / 5.4 V8's from 96-99 use the 8 bolt setup. i am currently checking on the 02's right now.

Count your valve cover bolts I think it's
11 bolts is a Romeo block = 6 bolt crank
15 bolts a Windsor block =8 bolt crank

You have a romeo engine....the romeo engines were 8 bolt before 99 but may have changed throughout the model years.

If I went to Ford w/ the VIN# and production date would they be able to tell me?
