I have an 03 GT. I finally got my misfire problem fixed, but I am in need of a new clutch. I searched on here for a while, and everything I read said get a new flywheel or get your old one resurfaced when you replace the clutch. No problems with that, I just decided to get a new flywheel. I went down today to a performance shop to take a look and see about getting everything installed. 2 of the guys started arguing about which flywheel I needed. 1 was yelling that I needed an 8 bolt, the other was yelling that I needed a 6 bolt because all GTs need a 6 bolt. I have an X for the engine code in my VIN, which is for a windsor engine. Ford even says that windsor engines have and 8 bolt crank.

So am I right that I should have an 8 bolt flywheel?

Thanks

if it is an 03 it should not be a windsor engine... unless that is not the orginal engine that came with the car then you have a romeo engine witch is a 6 bolt flywheel... 99-00 had the windsor engines with the 8 bolt 10.5" clutch yours is 6 bolt 11" clutch also you can count the bolts on the valve cover windsor = 14 bolts romeo = 11 bolts

exactly, You should have the Romeo which is 6 bolt. mid 01-04 have the romeo engines. 99-mid 01 have the Windsor. I just went threw this myself a week ago. I original ordered a 8 bolt, took it to ford and they said it did not fit. I had to order a 6 bolt flywheel from mustangtuning next day air because my car was on a lift at ford.:bang:. but the 6 bolt was the right one.
