flywheel

when i start my mustang it sounds like it doesnt grab the flywheel. so i take of the metal sheet and look at it and my flywheel is missing teeth and there wore down preety far. I was wondering how hard it would be to change my own flywheel. its a c4 and automatic. should i just buy a new tranny or ust fix it, can i do it my self or do i need someone to do it for me??? I feel like a newb .lol.

actually, since it's an auto tranny its a flex plate. just curious, do you mean that little cover thats on the underside of things? or do you mean the whole bell housing?

either way, it is very easy.. i think, well i would think its easy.. anyway, if you took the whole bellhousing off then you got most of the work done, if not..

You should unbolt the bell housing from the engine and then drop the tranny. !!!CAUTION!! make sure to plug up the yoke end, unless you want a bath in tranny fluid. then its a simple 6 bolts to unbolt from the crank.. and bolt up a new one (with a new bolt plate).. cheak the starter teeth too since thats what is connecting to flex plate. its nothing too hard, a bit time consuming though.

at the bottom of the bell housing theres a plate and if u take it off is show the bottom of the flywheel.

that happened to our mustang also. just buy a new flywheel (and starter possibly) and fix it. its not that hard its just a pain to get the transmission out of the way but with a few hands it shouldnt be two hard, it wasnt for us but i dont know if its different because mine is manual but i dont think it would matter too much. good luck
