Flywheel?

I've heard if you have an X for the 8th digit in your vin# then you have an 8 bolt Windsor block not the 6 bolt Romeo block. Does anybody have a 96-98 with an 8 bolt? Mine has the X engine code.

this is not true, X means its a Modular engine. 1996 to 1998 Mustangs wth 4.6 SOHC's have 6 bolt flywheels from the factory. 1996 up 4.6 DOHC Cobras have an 8 bolt as do 1996 Crown Vics wth a Windsor.

Thanx for the quick replies. Does anybody have a aluminum flywheel? Is it worth the money? Did you feel an increase of acceleration due to the lighter components? This is what I want to do: aluminum flywheel, king cobra clutch, aluminum driveshaft, and 4.10. Is this a good set up? Has anybody ever lightened their stock flywheel ?

I have the D&D aluminum flywheel. I noticed a huge difference. HUGE. The biggest was that I could launch withut as much tire spin. You lose a lot of low end tire ripping feel but it revs so fast. When I shift, I can just take my foot off the gas and hammer it into the next gear w/o the clutch. The revs drop that fast. just tapping the gas a split second sends the revs up to like 5000. Kinda have to rethink you driving strategy a little. The increase in acceleration is noticable. Maybe shaves .2 off the 1/4 mile time. It said for track use only one my but the street manners are about like stock once you adjust to the new setup. And BTW, the King cobra clutch blows. Just get a Centerforce Dual friction. Believe me it is worth every penny and more.

I believe mine was a 12lb or 17 lb flywheel, can't remember.
