Foam in oil... ?

i changed my oil a few days ago and i started it up today and checked it and the oil is foamy. i know that there is no water in in the oil and i put a little over 5 quarts in the car.

I'm not sure what else (besides water) would cause the oil to foam. My guess is that you're getting water in there somehow, perhaps the head gasket.

couldnt be a head gasket, car isnt smoking or anything and there was not any water in the oil when i drained it. is it possible that i put too much oil in? i heard that that could cause the oil to foam

You can still have a head gasket problem without transfer back and forth. That all depends on which portion of the gasket failed. Not that this is the problem here though.

With water in the oil, you'd know it. It would look like capacino that had been sitting for 2 days. hehe

yea check your coolant level and keep an eye on it... Ive never heard of foamy oil

yea ive seen oil from a blown head gasket and this looks nothing like that, im stumped ive never seen anything like this, im gonna pull the valve covers tommorow and see if i can find a nice little suprise

could there be something clogging the pick up

My friends G/F's ford F150 has the same thing happening and the shop told her it was just from condinsation. I think it is a head gasket my self cause they shanged the oil the day before I checked it and it was sitting for at least an hour and there was foam and creamy looking sludge.

Try a compression test on the radiator. If you drain the oil and water is in it it will come out 1st seperate from the oil.

i put 5 quarts in and then put mabye half a quart in the filter

alright heres an update, i checked the dipstick and there was no foam on the oil this time. i also took the valve cover off and everything looked normal there and i unthreaded the drain plug just enough to see that there was no water, and there wasnt, just oil. also checked all the plugs and they looked good, so im fairly sure that its not my head gaskets.

but im still stumped as to why the oil looked foamy anyone know if this could be cause by sometihng else

was there a bit of condensation maby. Was the oil just changed when you noticed the foam.

yea i had just changed the oil the day before then i started the car let it run for a few minuts and checked the oil. thats when i noticed the foam. i checked it today(didnt start the car) and no foam, oil looks clean. hopefully all is good

was there any like stabilizers or additives added to your oil? that will cause it to look foamy.

air bubbles from just being poured in.

what u need to do is take ur radiator cap of an start it then check if u get air bubbles coming from the cap hole u have to let it get warm so the flow is open. if u do then u do have a prob.the aintfreez will move around but look 4 bubbles. an pray it just a head an not the block. an if it wasint a wihte foam. or tan brown. dont worry about it just get a better oil. shell is the best 4 not foaming up. and keeps all the crap flowing out. i sware by it. an it's a bit cheeper then top name oils an works better by far . oil that stays clean longer is bad. u want all the crap to stay in the oil not stuck to ur parts. let me know how it truns out
