Where did you get your 3G at? Parts house or did you order it?

It looks like my alt took a crap on me on the way home and almost burned the car. It fried the fusible link that connects the BL/O wires from the alt to the starter relay. Got most of the way home and the car died about a mile from home and when I popped the hood there was all sorts fo smoke coming from around the starter relay. Then I could actually see a little flame. Got the fire out. Walked home and came back with my truck and a big light. I could see that the fusible link from the BL/O wire to the starter relay was burned in half. That would be where the smoke and flame was coming from.

So I haven't tested it yet, since it was 11:45 pm when it happened. But to me it seems that the alternator is bad. I figure that if it is now is a good time to upgrade.

On a side note I was on my way back from the track where I knocked .22 sec of my best time. I am down to [email protected] mph. The track was hooking up pretty good and it was cooler and a lot less humidity than last time I went.

PA alts are common. I run a Boss unit.
I would have used a NEW one from the parts store, but they were 190 bucks.

Good luck and congrats on your times. :nice:

Pa-performance is where I purchased mine. I converted to the 1 wire setup which by the sounds of it is what you are going to have to do anyways. Sorry to hear about your car but an alt and some wires is a small price seeing what potentially could have happened.

Yeah the alternative was not good. I figure that in the end I got off lucky cause it could have been worse and now I get to upgrade with out having to explain why I am taking off a good part just to put another in.

I got mine as salvage from an insurance broker. You can actually get some pretty sweat deals, paid lest than $100(cdn.) for it and works great. Just know what car you are looking to get one off of and go for it. For install I just bought everything and did it myself. Dont be intimidated by it, this was the easiest thing I have done for mods soo far, goes really smoothly.
