No, it will not take away much at all. The crank will still spin everything else slower so you will still gain power from it. You just won't have charging problems.Foxfan88 said:

Yeah I bought one of those cheap cai systems for my 347. I got it mostly for looks and too clean things up a bit more. I had to slightly mod mine too, to fit. And btw, I got your point of trying to save people money by showing them this kit instead of buying a $100 "name" brand one.
Just a suggestion, but you may want to consider removing those rubber bolt holders for the stock air box and mounting the piece so it sits more flush with the inner fender. It looks cleaner and will keep warmer air away from the filter.
Looks good, my only suggestions (as mentioned above): remove the rubber bushings and get yourself another hos clamp for the MAF
I dont know if I wanna install a CAI untill I get a bigger MAF. Mine is still stock. Iv'e heard good and bad about the CAI.
We justed installed the UDP on mine and it made a good difference. I used all the pulleys in the kit. My amp guage does read a lot lower @ idle, but comes up (obviously) when you are on the acell. We just removed the silencer about 1 1/2mth ago. It did change the sound some from the engine compartment. Just before (about a week) the pulleys I had the timing bumped up to 14. Stock from what I understand should of been 10. Mine was at 8. That made for a quicker responce on acell.
My next thing I believe is gonna be the MAF though.

RUNINAGT, what a find your car was! I had to do a double take when I read your sig. Take care of it. I think you are better off waiting on the cold air. Seriously, I think it's a waste of money unless you are trying to dress up the engine bay. If my car didn't come with one, I don't think I would have wasted the money on it.
For those of you wondering about CAI - see the technical article below. The factory box IS a CAI -- all it needs to tune it up are to have the factory silencer in the fenderwell removed, and the addition of a low restriction filter like the K&N flat panel. See the test results in the article. If you like, you can fabricate an ell to go between the maf and throttle body to clean up the flow in that area a bit. The only reason to go aftermarket with the vast majority of naturally aspirated 302 street cars is for cosmetics. Or, as in my case because you have to. Link to pic of my homemade intake/cold air 'box' below the article link - box sides are of sheet aluminum; foam seals box to underside of hood when closed; cold air enter from the front behind the grill/headlight; 3" and 3.5" mandrel bent exhaust ells insulated with rock wool and wrapped with black rubber-tape.

As displacement/HP increase, there is a limit to what the stock components will support without becoming a bottleneck --- but as I said, if it's a 302 and reasonably streetable -- the stock box suitably modified will work just fine.

Haha! I guess I should have said that my car already had one on it when I bought it. But if it had the stock setup on there when I got it, that's what would still be there like on all my other cars.
They still are a waste of money. Just like strokers, turbos, and blowers!! J/K
Remeber that alot of street UD pulley kits give a OVERDRIVE pulley for the alt , this helps the alternator charge better with the smaller crank pulley. Check what kind of kit you have because not putting on the alt pulley they give can cause it to charge worse.
hmm well my pulley kit's alt pulley is slightly larger than the stock one. sooo i believe its an underdrive and would benefit from leaving it off right??

I was told that the factory air box does just as good, but it makes sense on the bigger MAF. Doesn't do ya anygood to have move air coming in if it's still being restricted by the MAF. Update on my UDP's. Last night I noticed for the 1st time sinse they were installed that my lights were dimming with the hitting of the bass, and I was driving on the interstate. You guys think I need to change the alternator pulley back to O.E and go with a smaller belt???? Help me on this guys I dont want to burn up a perfectly good alternator or battery.
Time for a 3G upgrade...if it's doing it on the highway, spinning the alternator faster probably isn't going to be enough...
You are correct in assuming the alternator pulley is an underdrive. I would look into getting an overdrive pulley for it at the least. Especially with the stock alternator.Foxfan88 said:

I would agree with Michael on this one. If you are at highway speeds then spinning it faster might not help. The smaller alt pulley and shorter belt would still be better than what you are running.
