For those with Air Compressors in the garage...

I just received a Craftsman air compressor for the garage as an early Christmas present.

I am confused on how the regulator works. My impact says it needs90 psi and no more than that.

The compressor shuts off when the tank pressure gets to 150psi and comes back on at 120psi. The problem is when I adjust the regulator to 90 psi, it drops my tank pressure also and the compressor starts running again??

What am I missing here?

You want anywhere from 120-150. So you're doing it right for air tools. The 90 psi is a minimum for the air tool to work in it's specified torque range.

The regulator and tank pressure are independent. The pressure switch on your tank is set to 120/150 on/off. The regulator can be set to any pressure you need without effecting tank pressure. I also keep mine around 90 psi.

Is your compressor on wheels or stationary? If it's stationary, I suggest a wall mount filter/regulator combo to keep the amount of water in your lines down. Plumb it over to the wall using black pipe. Those cheap "leader hoses"really cut down on your airflow. Just my two cents. Here's what I have...
