FORD falls apart after 50k???

I was talkin' to this young punk Accord owner and he told me that Ford motors are known to fall apart and lose performance after 50k miles...I've never owned a FORD before and didn't verify his story yet but want to know what the word is on this...perhaps the rings, lifters, valves, etc. go bad quickly..???

BTW my 02 3.8 makes this HORRIBLE hissing noise on startup, lasts a couple of minutes, then goes away. One mechanic thinks its the lifers and/or oil pump and another thinks its the exhaust manifold or gaskets... I'm weary of driving it hard for fear of a cracked m-fold or something. Another owner told me they had the same sound but no clue...any comments????

I'll be the first one to respond, even though it's probably a troll... my Ford just rolled over to 118,000 miles yesterday. No leaks, no squeaks or rattles, transmission's still good, in fact my 10 year old car runs smoother and better than some new cars I have driven. And it has not lost any power. My car makes no hissing noise on startup.

159k on my 92 Mustang it used to be my DD until the A/C quit. Now i only drive it in nice weather, but i have never had any major issues with it and I run about 5 PSI More boost into it then what it was designed for.

Okay, I'll be the first to say it - You listened to an ACCORD owner who probably doesn't like Ford and especially Mustangs... 103k on mine currently - still runs!

Is this true?!? Go out to the front of your '02, and carefully inspect the grille. Does it have a galloping horse, or an "H"? If it is a honda, I can understand why it sounds like it's going to blow up whenever you start it. I am ashamed to admit, I once owned a honda, and it gave me far more trouble and cost me far more money than the 5 Fords I had before it combined. Those 5 Fords never once left me stranded. The accord did several times. So, in what way was the honda better?

I won't bash Honda's My current DD is a Accord. and I have owned 2 others, one had 190k miles, (bought used) and the other had 270k miles (bought New) and both cars gave me Very little trouble. I think the worst thing i had happen was a alternator go out. Between the 3 hondas i have had and 500k miles between them. I have had Almost no issues at all. Of course the 3 taurus's, mustang, and F150 havent ever given me any trouble either.

crapola amnit: put it this way, I'd happily buy a GM or Chrysler product before I'd buy another honda. Heck, I'd put away my driver's license and step on the bus before I buy another honda. Which is what I had to do after I unloaded my accord at a loss of several thousand dollars. That honda put me on the bus for 1.5 years until my wallet recovered from paying for all the honda's breakdowns. If other people's hondas lasted a zillion miles and orally pleasured them every time they started it, great, but that doesn't change what my honda did to me. I gave them a chance, and they blew it big time. So, I wish honda nothing but misery and misfortune for the rest of my days on this Earth.

OK I didnt' mean for this to be a honda bashing session...since all ur cars are perfect but my Mustang with the galloping horse emblem on the front is making a funny hissing/ticking noise on startup and lasts about 2 minutes then goes away. Lifters or manifold?? p.s. do any of your smileys diagnose engine sounds???

same deal for me with a civic type R..

more problems and breakdowns in 6 months than my camaro, astro and mustang combined..

the civic was a true POS, eventualy honda had the car back as unservicable... at less than a year old.

noise after startup

could be the starter. my stang has made that noise a few times (mostly in winter cold) and I think it is the starter on the flywheel. but it goes away after a few seconds.

I got the same year and same amout of miles ( more less ) and the same goes for me...

'95. 176k. Small oil leak. What can else could be expected from 12 year old hardened and worn rubber?

My catalytic converters are in need of being chopped off as well.

Nothing major. Compression is still perfect. Vacuum pressure is perfect. Fuel pressure is perfect.

Eventhough cars are more or less completely assembled by robots, not every car is created equal.

Some folks swear by Toyotas and Hondas, but I've had problems with their interiors falling apart after a few years. No engine worries though.

I would guess the hissing sound is starter related as well.

My immediate family owns 8 fords. If you count my grandparents than we own about 17, they own their own business and have alot of work trucks and econoline vans. We have owned any Ford imaginable. Run down of some of our Fords.
66' stang, dads toy
00' stang mine
88' f-150
97' f-150
02' f-250
87' t-bird
99' ranger
06' f-350 diesel

our list of previous Fords includes aerostars, taurus's etc.

out of all these vehicle we have had only 1 problem and that was on the 88' f-150, it burned a hole through one of the cylinders. Replaced it and it still runs like a champ.
My grandparents do ALOT of towing with their vehicles, fully loaded trailers and heavy generators.

I actually work for American Honda as a student associate, and am not gonna run them down but from my experiences Ford's are EXTREMELY reliable. Your ignorant friend running his mouth is the very reason why domestics are struggling .

Some myths die hard. Even though Ford had more top listings than Toyota in the 2007 JD Powers ratings, even though Buick was tied with Lexus for top quality just last week..

hissing could be fan belt. As for Fords being crap, police departments have been buying the 4.6 for a decade and they sell em to often cab companies who roll them up to beyond 250k!!
And as for the accord owner, he's just pissed he got his ass handed to him by a stang
