Just to set the record straight ?? it was the 2003 Ford 427 concept that came first..However, Ford was unable to bring it into production due to not having a suitable platform to build it upon ? here's some additional quotes I located from a different forum that you may also find interesting...

Interesting that Ford's designers knew where the market was going but Ford's screwed up corporate culture prevented Ford from capitalizing on the designer's vision. How different would the automotive world be today if Ford had been able to but something like the 427 into production for the start of the 04 model year.

It's hard to tell becuase in 2004 Chrysler had just started selling the 300C...
I'm not arguing the fact that Ford had the Concept out before the 300, but you all should know that it takes about 3.5 years to develop a car from design to production. And with the 300 (or LX platform) this started in 2001 as one of the first products after the merger of DiamlerBenz and Chrysler Coproration. So in reality if Ford was only displaying a concept - Chrysler was actually building prototypes at that time.

Just goes to show that it was Daimler/Chrysler who copied Ford's 427 concept design back in 2003 before releasing it's updated 300 in 05 and not the other way around. So it appears as though Ford is taking another crack at it with this interceptor concept ? perhaps this time around, Ford will actually learn from it's prior screw up's instead of repeating them by hopefully bringing this interceptor along with the Lincoln concept into production..

For starters ?? there would be no Chrysler 300 in it's present form.. therefore ? Daimler/Chrysler owes their success to Ford

That is incorrect...The 300C in reality took it's design from the 2003 Ford 427 concept

for all we know ? Ford could have put together the 427 back in 01-02 during it's very early stages as a concept..

just thought I'd start a little chain reaction just for the hell of it..srothfuss is right, it does take 3-4 years for a car to hit the market in production form. Hau Thai Tang even mentioned this during a meeting (Ford Bold Moves episode) regarding the decision to have Shelby make the Shelby GT instead of having SVT/Ford develop the Shelby GT. Shelby could get the GT/GT-H into market within months instead of years.

At least we now know that Ford can build vehicles such as the Interceptor concept along with the Lincoln MKR concept from the current Mustang D2C platform

Chryslers design would have to of been finalized before the 427 hit the NAIAS show floor in January 2003.
The inital design review process would have begun in the summer of 2001. The clay models of the 300 would have been ready to go by summer of 2002. Kicking off of the Prototype tooling would have followed in September of 2002... After months of trials and evaulations / engineering changes, the production tooling would have been kicked off in the summer of 2003... Chrysler might not have been out showboating a car they weren't going to build [i.e. FORD] but they were keeping one under wraps (like they always do) until 6 months before launch in late August of 2004.
The Ford concept could have been whipped up in 2001 / 2002 but there is no way that either Ford nor Chrysler knew of each others plans. My point is that Chrysler acted on the emerging market before Ford showed off their concept. That is all.

And my point was Ford may have been working on prototypes for the 427 back in 01-02 before displaying the concept in 2003 and I also quoted as saying that it may have been possible.. ? I never stated that it was written in stone
