Got plans for this evening or tomorrow? If you are in the Jersey Shore area this weekend, then you have a fair chance for a smoky Ford Mustang treat. The 2013 Formula DRIFT championship is all set up, with Vaugn Gittin, Jr. set to defend his 2012 championship, and Mustang mate Justin Pawlak resting solid at 8th place in the overall points competition this year. As we stated earlier, Ford Motor Company is the leading the points race in the Manufacturer Cup, too–that’s awesome!

The excitement will all take place at the Wall Stadium Speedway today and tomorrow (June 22nd), in New Jersey. Keep reading to get the full scoop in the press release, following!

Press Release

Wall, N.J., June 2013 – The 2012 event champion and currently running second in points this year, Vaughn Gittin, Jr. and Justin Pawlak, positioned in the top 10 of the points hunt, will represent Ford Motor Company in a pair of Ford Mustangs at Round Four of the Formula DRIFT championship on June 21-22, 2013 at Wall Stadium Speedway (Wall, N.J.). As an official partner of Formula DRIFT, Ford has amped up its involvement engaging the sport’s fans by providing them access to new Ford products at this season’s Formula DRIFT events.

“Formula DRIFT has become one of the most dynamic forms of action motorsports,” says Paul Brearey, Ford marketing manager for enthusiast events. “Everyone in the sport shares our passion for performance cars. Highlighting our terrific Mustang competitors lets us showcase how fantastic these cars are, as well as some of our other hot vehicles at the track.”

It was Henry Ford’s personal involvement in racing in 1901 that helped to provide the capital and the awareness for what was to become Ford Motor Company two years later. Ever since then, Ford has been involved in motorsports to promote its products and to connect with performance enthusiasts.

“Ford’s deeper involvement with Formula DRIFT this year should come as no surprise to those who follow the series,” says Mickey Matus, Ford Racing marketing communication manager. “We became involved in Formula DRIFT in 2005, using the series to help develop a supercharged 4.6-liter V8 crate engine for the Ford Racing Performance Parts program. Eight years later, drifting is an integral part of Ford’s growing outreach to young performance enthusiasts who love cars, but are not interested in traditional forms of racing.”

“We have the dream team of Mustang drivers,” Matus adds. “Vaughn Gittin, Jr. and Justin Pawlak are fierce and talented competitors supported by top-notch teams. Vaughn won the 2010 Formula DRIFT championship in his Ford Mustang and is second in points this season. Justin is sitting in eighth currently. These guys are stars in Formula DRIFT. We look forward to an intense weekend of drifting at Wall Stadium Speedway, and we’re also focused on holding onto the top spot in the Manufacturer Cup.”

For drifting fans, Ford will also provide major eye candy at the event. Upon entering the gates, ticketholders will see a Mustang V6 and GT; Focus ST; and a customized Fusion that made its debut at the 2012 SEMA show and features Ford parts and accessories. Ford’s Mustang Customizer kiosk allows fans to design and show off their dream car via social media in real-time at the event.

“We’re ecstatic with the new energy in and outside the paddock that Ford has brought to the series,” says Ryan Sage vice president/co-founder of Formula DRIFT. “Their ability to draw new fans is just uncanny, and at the same time, fans are witnessing intense driving by Vaughn Gittin, Jr. in that beast of a Mustang. Ford has really helped our series get the recognition it deserves and we are only in round four.”

Tickets are available for Round Four of “The Gauntlet” at Wall Stadium Speedway. The action can also be followed on Facebook, Twitter (@FormulaDrift) and it’s streamed live.
