Ford said bad PATS receiver but can't fix it???

My 98 cobra has been having this intermitten starting problem the past few months. So I took it to Ford thinking it was the PATS system.

They said the PATS receiver looks bad but since they discontinued the part, they can't do anything about it !!!!!!

Can the dealer just disable it or I can I get a used one?

Anyone know where it's located?

you can take it to your speed shop, and get it tuned out of it.

Call around to see if another dealer might still have the part, or access to one.

Do I need a chip to disable it? Or can they do it on the current ECU?

Anyone know the part number for the PATS receiver (in the steering column)?

i dont think they would discontinue a part like that

if you have a chip or hand held tuner like Xcal2 you can have the pats turned off

I thought it was against the law for automakers to discontinue parts on vehicles under 10 yrs old or something like that.

That is exactly what I thought. I've tried finding info on the web about it but can't find anything.

the PATS module is not discontinued, thats just plain the part # is XF1Z-19A366-AA and list for @$145.00

its in the trunk on the driverside

The people that work at Ford are usually idiots. After i sued the piss out of the Ford dealer I don't step in a Ford dealer. Pats is still around and my pats is acting stupid as hell too. It likes to shut off my car here and there. I'm going to get that tuned out of my car. I have a ignition and installing a fuel pump cut off switch so don't really care for pats. You never can be to safe.

He actually said that it looks like the receiver in the steering column that is bad. Do you know if that part is still avaiable and the number?

ok the PATS transceiver(s) on the steering column are also still aval but there are 2 choices depending on build date, before or after 3/25/98?

I'll have to get back to you as it's still at the dealer.

Any reason as to why the guy would make this up? Is it because it has an aftermarket blower on it they don't want to touch? He did say he wouldn't charge me anything...

BTW check your fuses too, I have had several cars over the years wher other techs replaced the transciver and gave up and I find a blown fuse.

it's somewhat rare but the fuse for the pats can blow causing the car to not start.

Yeah, I've checked the fuses numerous times. Actually found a blown one but it didn't seem to help anything (was unrelated to PATS).

If I install a new PATS transceiver, do I have to get the system reprogrammed with the keys? Or would it still work?

you don't have to get it programed. as long as thats what the problem is it should work out of the box.

cool I am glad you checked the fuses first. You would be surprised how many times I have seen people spend days trying to fix pats problems and then have it be a fuse.
