Forged or not ???? that is the question

If I am not mistaken didnt the 90 gt come with forged pistons and rods. I am thinking they did. I know they atleast have forged pistons just not sure about the rods too. I think both are forged. Anyway Dan @ prodyno was asking me if it had forged pistons and rods and I told him I thought they did. Anywhere I can find out?

I'm pretty sure all rods are forged, and your pistons should be too. So you should have forged pistons and rods, but since all rods are forged (I think) then he shouldn't be asking you if they are. All roller motors in 85-92 mustangs are forged pistons I think.

The rods were not forged in any 5.0 engines. If your shortblock is original, it should have forged pistons however. The factory rods are not a weak point, so don't worry about it; and if you are worried, install ARP rod bolts.

Forged pistons

Pistons were forged through '92. Starting in '93 they switched to a hyperutechtic alloy to save money.

Factory 289-302-351W rods are forged, and always have been.

'85- early '92 5.0 pistons are TRW forged, mid '92-'01 are Hypereutectic.

pointless the block will split first!

302 blocks are know to split at as little as 500hp crank! Some have made that at the wheels, but on borrowed time!

Already have ARP rods bolts in them

Doesn't really matter, it's unlikely the rods are the first part to break anyway.
