Forging is the process in which the metal is shaped while hot. Our blocks are cast iron, where the molten steel is poured into a mold, so you couldn't forge your block, but could get a forged rotating assembly to put inside of it. Even the Dart or FRPP blocks are still cast iron.

Wrap it REALLY REALLY tight in duct tape.

That way it wont blow, and if something does, the duct tape will surely contain it.

But your best bet would be getting forged internals, the stock block is good up to 400 HP (I think)

The power that the stock block can handle is proportional to how good your tune is. Search for Eades5.0 threads to see someone that intelligently pushed the boundaries of what people say the block can take.

wow, if technology existed that allowed a solid block of cast iron to be forged into an engine block, everyone would be all over it. The strength of the block lies in its design and casting quality. The best thing to do to a stock block would be to add strengthening components to areas that see the highest stress, such as a main cap girdle, or even those lifter valley girdles you can get. The weakest point then becomes the cylinder walls, but as mentioned, a good tune is the key to preventing catastrophic failure.

Of course we know you mean buying and installing forged internals.

If contemplating what you are kicking around, I'd see about getting an extra (or aftermarket) block and building it up on the side.

Good luck.

dont bother. In my mind, its basically the block that is the weak point. If your gonna spend money on forged internals, get a better block!

I would agree that it is all in the tune. I ran at about 430rwhp for a year, then last year I kicked it up to a little over 500rwhp. All on the stock block and rotating assembly.
I just made sure that I didn't get on it at all until I was able to get to the dyno and tune it when I made modifications.
I won't say that it will last forever at that power level, in fact I half expect my block to crack in half each time I got to the track, but its still kicking so far.

well from all my reading, many people say the stock internals will hold out longer then the block...it seems the block is the weak point and not the pistons or rods necessarily. And this is why i believe u see many using the dartblock or seeking out a mexican block or fords r302 block

don't get too big of head guero....

i don't totally agree with the block being the weakest point. the stock hypercrap pistons are pretty bad when it comes down to it.
