Found a 2 pin connector on the tail shaft of my TKO unconnected?

First off, I didnt install it, I had a dude do it and mistakes happen.

Basically it looked like the connector on the tps harness. I found what it plugs into and I plugged it back in. My question is, what was it? Ever since the tremec was installed I have had a horrible cold start idle and im wondering if that was the cause??

All of the new Tremec have connections for both a mechanical and electrical speedo connection.
If you are using the cable then that is probably the connection for the electrical which is not needed in your application.

As mentioned in the gas mileage thread, the only 3 electrical connections on the car for the tranny should be 1) back up lights (reverse indicator), 2) VSS (vehicle speed sensor), and 3) neutral indicator. Back up lights and VSS are near the back of the tranny; neutral indicator pig tail should be near the front. My conversion has neither VSS or neutral indicator connected - it doesn't seem to impact idle quality or fuel mileage. If I get any better fuel mileage, I'm gonna start setting records. :)

Im using an old TKO, not the new improved tko 500/600's. Theres obviously a reason for that sensor since it connected into one of my factory harnesses for the transmission.

Anyone know for sure?

My friend looked it up and it is the neutral switch. I just tried starting it up dead cold (first time of the day) and it idles so much BETTER, did not stall at all and I didnt have to keep my foot on the gas like usually to keep it alive!! I think that unplugged sensor was my problem with cold starting issues since this problem started as soon as I picked my car up from getting the TKO installed.

I don't recall the engine management system using the neutral indicator for anything other than cruise control and code pulling. Either way, glad your car runs better.

Pre 88 cars used the VSS for cruise control only, or so I have read. If M.Yount's volvo has an earlier engine, that may explain the lack of need for VSS inputs.

Nope - it's a 91 engine/A9L and seems to get along just fine with no VSS input. The neutral switch input missing is more problematic as it won't let me run a KOER code test. But, that hasn't been an issue yet, and I know how to hook the neutral switch and the VSS into the computer, should I decide to hook them up. Can't see the reason to yet - 8 years/38K miles it seems to be doing fine without them. :)

Makes sense Michael because when I tried doing a KOER test it wouldnt let me. I'll try that when I get a chance now that the neutral switch is hooked up!

I still don't see how that fixed most of my cold start idle issues? Oh well.

Ah, oh well...so much for information gleaned from the internet. I am narrowing down a spiking idle on deceleration to my VSS. Hearing how you car runs fine without it, I am leaning towards disconnecting the thing when I have time to see if that fixes anything. I guess we will see. BTW, I still need to try the KOER test on my aod to t5 converted car...Ill let ya know if I ever get to it.
