I found my surgeing problem today. Its either the MSD coil or the bracket it mounts to (painted it, so if it acts like a ground..it doesnt now) So I'm happy and start to finish my last 4g ground on my 3g install. My f'in floor has a rusted spot above the first cat. The doggone thing is so thin that I can flex the floorpan with my finger. Oh and my "flowmaster like" exhaust sounds that way, not because of a small leak, but the front of the muffler being rusted out. Hell its only supposed to be a year or two old. On top of this I have extensive rust in the engine bay, crossmember seaperators are chunks of corrosion, and ..yes my magnetic eye attracted much of it from the undercarriage. Salt sucks, thank god I'm in NC.

Did you have an initial thread about problem? If so, please locate that thread and copy/paste the fix. It might help the next guy who has a similar problem.

Daggar: I'v got a couple post going right now. All relate to this problem. I told Jrichker that I would sand the mounting points on the coil mount, replace the msd coil and see if it fixes the problem. Hopefully its not the coil. I've always had good luck with MSD. If it is the coil bracket (acting as a ground) or if it is just MSD bad product, I'll make sure it hits the surging idle post. Otherwise people will find it through coil. I have to say that you, Srothfuss and jrichker have been a hell of alot of help. I'm still learning about mustangs but enjoying it. If I could only perfect my body work. (Spent 4 hours on two dime sized dents) Have learned that 80 grit taked polyester filler down fast and that 220 will smooth it like silk. Eventially I'll post pics for the overall build. I like to do all my own work...sense of pride. Body...suspension...and then I'll mount the turbo. Should be fun.

Nice! Goodluck with it! Hope it all works out. My comment above was intended to help folks out who use the search function. All too often, folks put up a thread for a problem, resolve that problem, then neglect to post the cure in the original thread.

When another user comes along and does a search, he find nothing but threads from folks that have had similar problems but with no solutions posted. So it's just a reminder. When find the final solution. Post your findings in your original threads. It's ALWAYS a great help! :)

Will do, Thanks for the help. I'll probably be needing a lot more in the future. I understand why people pay other to do this stuff, but nothings better than knowing youve done it all. I regretted not painting my last project car, wont do it this time. Lovin it.

OK Mister moderator (and I say that with 100% respect :D )
I am convinced the "search" function does not work properly. Here's a test to prove my point.
In the 5.0 talk forum, search on " 5 lug". Only two threads pop up. There MUST be 20+ threads on this subject. What gives? Whenever I try to search on something, it doesn't work...

I've asked that question before as well. The reply that I got was that the search is only really intended to operate in the forums that it's setup for. 5oh TALK is not one of them. TECH is where the thing is setup to work.

Try that same search inthe Tech forum and see what result you get.

This is also a data base, so if you want 5 lug, you have to type "5 and lug"

You may also type if "5 or lug" if you want to find either but to have both, you need the word "and"

Correct me if I am wrong, but 9 out of 10 forums operate this way.

Midwest cars S#*K Part 2

Well I went to my body class today and removed the Gt's rear bumper. Yea more rust. I dont care about anything that will be covered, but looks like some grinding and rust converter will be needed on the chassis soon. I'm trying to think postive and came up with this....its not rust removal ...its weight reduction. Glass half full theory.....only i dont like what its half full of.

Did pick up the Cervinis cobra rear bumper. Very nice quality and fitment. looks like I'll need to drill the rivets out of the lower gt bumper mounts.
Still plan to post a load of pictures on my restore. Before, during and after.

Iowa's just next door. I'm sure you now exactly what I'm talking about. The funniest part is that I have a 72 ford truck thats undercarriage looks better than my Gt. I'm going to try and posts some pics of what I'm dealing with here. The biggest problem is that this class ends in 4 weeks (1 day a week). Got to say its great though. Its a bunch of us older guys working on our own cars. Hell I paid the $65 just to use the heated paint booth.

I really don't wanna hear it...I live in the rustbelt capital of the US...Buffalo, NY.
I swim in salt here in the winter. Salt trucks rule the streets here. One of my DD's is a 2003 with 40K on it, and the first rust bubbles are already forming.
When the streets are 100% white and I'm not talking about snow, you know you have a problem with salt.

Been in that area pretty bad too. I'm not talking bubbles, Im talking paper thin sheet metal. Bubbles get sanded out feathered etched, primed, sealed, colored, cleared then feathered. Pretty simple compared to the pitted and scaled portions. Salt sucks period. Just imagine the responses if I tiltled it "every state (except Florida, California, Texas, Arizona and New Mexico) sucks. Actually, Ill post the follow up as "Salt and rust Sucks". Brought the car back to NC and now have to remove surface rust from the salt in the air. Cant win. Oh well.

More shots
Drivers side needs some reshaping around the fender well. Unfortunately I have to shape, paint and reshape. It seems to be the only way I can get the body lines right. The second pick is some of the rust behind the bumper. I found tis on all areas that have been etched (greenish primer).

Ill give some info on the next reply.
The front end after it was completes. Still need to wet sand the front bumper and finish the ground effects up front. If you have any defects in your plastics (definitely on the bumpers) buy new plastic. After time and money spent on supplies youll save some money. Unfortunately I didnt learn this untill I had already mounted the Cobra grille. The R hood with SVO scoop is gaudy, but looks a hell of alot better after it was painted. Lights were buffed out using a fininshing compund. Both new fenders were undercoated. Its a labor of love.
