Just seeing what everyone's thoughts would be on this....

Maybe it's only me, but i woud be interested in a center console delete in my 87 LX. Do they exist? i think it would give a bit more racey feel and maybe just be pretty cool. maybe remove the entire center console, replace it with a small piece that ties the shifter and dash together, then maybe a small boot around the e-brake. just my thoughts....how about everyone else????

yes, they cawme stock on 79-86 cars. You can find the peices to do the delete all the time on Ebay. There is a cover for the e brake handle (which you need to use the 79-86 handle, the 87-93 handle is too large to fit into the covers hole) and also a shifter benzel, but mounting the AC and CD player becomes a problem.

Actually I have it in my car now.

some stangs 87-93 came factory with armrest deletes. i'm not sure what constituted which car got them and which didnt, but they're on ebay usually. i used to have a smoke gray one, a titanium gray one and a porno red one. i saw some picture not that long ago on here of a guys car who had black interior and no center console at all. it actually looked pretty cool, old school looking, with just a carpeted tunnel and a chrome hurst shifter handle.

Umm....his car is an '87...so the console is kinda/sorta part of the console....i'm not sure what you mean by this other than swapping to a '79-86 dash.

Mines a 93 You take the entire center console out, and replace it with a small trim piece that surrounds the E brake handle, and a trim piece that surrounds the shifter boot. Only hard part is making something to mount your CD player and AC in. Actually, untill I fine a way to mount my CD player, I cut the center console right after the shifter. Ill see if I can find the pics I took a while back.

I tried the armrest delete in my car. I had nowhere to rest my elbow so i put it back in.

I've seen a nice 87=93 console delete on here not too long ago. handbrakes are difference than a 79=86 car so unsure if the trim would work, but they cut the console basically where it comes down and custom molded a bottom so they could still have a radio and HVAC.

You will need a new carpet though, because the OEM one is cut up under the console and may not look good.

When I bought my car it had an armrest delete on it.
I hated it so I bought an armrest on ebay.
It was kinda weird not having a place to rest my arm.

I've seen the armrest deletes. I was thinking along the lines of oldschool too. when the entire center peice comes out the piece around the enviromental and radio controls does too. i was thinking of a replacement piece that goes back on, covering the controls and down around the shifter. guess i could start cutting it up, but hate to do it with the original parts. ...have to get some junkyard center console to rip up. pics would be awesome too!

I'm sure someone could get creative and make a radio benzel out of fiberglass.
