Should find out about my loan tmrw, kinda excited but unsure at the same time. It is a lot to borrow especially for someone that has never had a car payment before, etc. But, been working hard and saving up the past few years, stayed out of debt, lived simple with no big expenses so I think I deserve a nice car(still love my fox don't worry).

Also, talked to my auto insurrance person yesterday, and to my surprise the cobra won't be too much more. I had to do a double take when she told me that it would only be about $15 a month more than my car now. I was like are you sure thats for a 2003 cobra??!

I almost feel like Im in the best position right now to get a termi, if I wait longer im sure it will get harder and harder to find a good one. And plus right now, I dont have any kids, not married, no credit card debt, etc. I know its usually not good to have second thoughts, but its a big decision and im still a little unsure if I should take the leap....

Sounds like you made your mind up already. Post pics when you get the termi.

Get the cobra keep the fox restore it in future thats what i did. I bought my notch in 1994 and just bought 03 cobra a little over a year ago. I plan on keeping both and adding a 67 68 fastback someday. Youll love the cobra.

If you can easily afford the Cobra, and you plan to DD while you work on the Fox, then I say go for it.

Actually, I think he's got it backwards. The foxbody mustangs aren't depreciating anymore, whereas the Cobras still are. You are going to lose the vast money you put into modifications, but that goes for either car. 03-04 Cobras are more limited in production, but they're still going to continue to devalue for another decade.

In any event, it's just a personal choice. Good luck making the right decision for you.

I wouldn't buy a car based on whether or not it is going to get more valuable, I'd buy whatever I'm going to have fun with.

I doubt either car will get more valuable in our lifetimes. I was just responding to the idea that you'd lose the money you put into the fox. While it's true that the money spent in rebuilding and modifying the fox will be largely be lost, it's also likely you're going to lose more money in the Cobra's depreciation over the next 3-5 years. Let's face it, every car that's actually used is essentially a bottom-less pit. Maintenance will never go away for any car. I'd go out on a limb and say that repairing and maintaining a fox will be cheaper than a Cobra. The parts are getting harder to find, but they're still dirt cheap. The motor is less complicated, and basics like tires and brakes are going to be cheaper since they're smaller.

From a purely financial perspective, it's almost never a wise move to sell your car and move into a newer one. That's not to say you shouldn't. The case for turn-key reliability, accident safety, and the fun factor you'd get from a newer car is strong. The question nevertheless remains a personal one. Is it worth the money/payment/stress to you? I faced a similar question back in the day and I'm very happy with my decision to buy a 1997 Corvette in 2006 that I still own today. I took a loan for $19k that I paid off in a year. I've been very happy with having a car that's never left me stranded, and has always been fun to drive. At the time, it was a very strong urge to have a newer, nicer looking, every day car that I wouldn't worry about when I took a girl out, etc... If the Cobra is that car to you, go for it. If you're not ready financially, take your time. They'll keep coming down in price, and you'll keep saving money which is a win/win.

Get the Cobra and keep the Fox also if your finances allow. That's what I did.

I wouldn't automatically assume the cobra will be a reliable daily driver. Plenty of people I know with cobras modify them and then have issues they need to deal with all the time. I wouldn't say they are finicky, but a cobra is one of those cars i would just buy and drive with maybe a few clean choice mods (conservative pulley and tune as well). You start pushing 600hp through them and stuff will break.

Btw....they suck in the rain. Had to drive a 500hp cobra in the rain on the highway.

If I bought a cobra, it would def have to be as a second car because I couldn't daily drive one.

I think you could save a boat load of money if you got a 4.6 or 5.4 dohc motor and dropped in the fox and just bought a cheap daily driver. tis an option but if you love the terminator and can afford it get it. I just think a sleeper fox would be so sick. Guess it all depends in the time and money you got going on . . . .

Agreed to everything you posted. That's why I bought my Cobra, wanted something nice, quick, and low miles. Still like to DD the Fox and beat on it though.

I say go for it if you can afford it, The payment isn't that bad... I was going to pick one up this past october and i think i was going to pay $300. monthly. Got approved on a Friday and then the weekend came around and i decided not to get it... The wife was cool with it, but i already have a Lightning and a 89 notch.

I will get one , but at this point i would rather purchase a wrecked one and convert my notch.

I know someone on here (he knows who he is) who has a Termi motor and trans ready to go into an 89 LX. If it works for him I might do it as well. Best of both worlds maybe ??
