Fox throttle body swap (First impressions)

I finished my fox throttle body swap today. This swap is so easy, it's a wonder why I did'nt do it earlier. With the wiring help I got off here and a few basic tools, this swap took less than an hour of actual work (not counting stopping to b/s and looking for all the parts in the garage). First thing is how much cleaner this looks. It's so nice to be able to actually see all the plugs and be able to remove the v/c in a few minutes. I now have the curse of the whistling BBK T/B though. No big deal, just forgot that fox T/B's whistle a bit. Performance wise the car is amazing. Throttle response is crisp and immediate. On a few quick WOT passes I am now seeing 12-13#'s. With the old setup I saw a max of 10#'s. I'll hopefully have some dyno #'s in a week or so to back up my SOTP readings. Pics will be up tomorrow.
 
I still don't understand how the fox setup is a benefit. The air must make a 90* turn instead of a 45* which should be better. I just don't understand why this swap makes a difference in power....
 
Cool...glad to hear it works...I had mine all hooked up, adjusted the TPS, sounded nice and crisp....Then I tore it down again....
What did you have an intake...didn't notice???

I'm actually with you on that.. I don't understand the benefit of changing over either..
 
Maybe the air is going in at a straighter angle with the fox setup? if you think about the 94/95 setup, its still going around a curve when its entering the intake... The fox setup will allow it to flow in straight? :shrug: :shrug: :shrug:
 
But the air still has to pass through a curve in each setup, just in a different place, so it shouldn't make a difference. It also has to travel about the same distance, im with you Paul, I don't get this one.

Yes it is straighter AFTER the T-body, but the fox has a much larger bend directly in front of it. Its a 90* bend. Looking at our setup to the fox's, ours has less sudden and profound bends if a homemade CAI is used. The factory rubber inlet has 2 ~90* bends before the T-body and that could definitely cost power versus the fox setup. Obviously the blower guys keep finding power with the swap... I just wonder why and what gains if any could be found on a NA car.
 
The stock Vortech inlet has 2 bends in a 5 inch space. I've never liked the 94-95 elbow adapter either. The main reason I did this swap was for looks. It's alot cleaner and just looks better IMHO. Any power gains are secondary and just a perk. The stock inlet was a PITA to get on and off also. Now I have a nice linear 3 inch inlet size from the back of the blower all the way into the intake. As far as NA guys benefiting from this, I'm not sure. Why would anyone be NA anyways :shrug: J/K. Here's a couple pics.

Fox parts you need:
Throttle cable
Throttle cable bracket
Throttle body of your choice (Fox style of course)
IAC and TPS
TPS connector off donor car
EGR Eliminator. (I'm not using egr so I used a UPR Delete plate)


I used a 3in exhaust u-bend. Cut it in half, trimmed the excess length, drilled a hole for the bypass and put it on. Pretty simple.
