They do burn out, and most usually under the stress of going up. Double check the fuses and hope that is the problem.

The pump is located under the liner in the boot. Pop out a handful of screws to remove the vinyl and there she is.

You can take the fluid out and disconnect the motor to manually lift and lower the top but please take my advice and don't. A brand new motor can cost as much as $250 but you can find refurbished ones for around $90. Ebay or Craigslist comes up with used ones around 50 very frequently.

My motor went when I was broke and in college so yanking it out was the economical thing to do. Three years later it is my greatest mustang regret. Now my frame has two broken assembly pieces and I am sure it is bent way out of shape. Next time I replace the roof I intend to get a new assembly and motor which will be very expensive in the long run.

If you do take out the motor and go manual be sure to lift the frame with two people by supporting it from the thick bars that are double up. Try to lift it at the same time and be careful. It is very easy to break.
