Free gears.....

The local ford dealership says they have the 3.73 and 3.55 gears from an explorer that I can get for free as many as I want. They did a recall on them because they were cut straight and they whine alittle going down the road( doesnt matter to me cause you cant hear nothing over my engine). Well I can get some free slightly used gears and they said they would change all the bearings and crush sleeve and put them in my stang for $200. Is that a good deal? Oh yeah if anyone wants one, PM me for details. :nice:

It is a good deal...however i would not want to put used gears in my car..let alone gears that were part of a recall (even if for noise issues)

Can ford even do that? You would think there would be some liability issues with this. It must be a TSB and not a recall then

nah its a recall I have a friend that works there. They are suppose to throw them away but he said he would get them to me. He swears there is nothing wrong with them. And since they are in 08 explorers they cant have too many miles on them and I am sure they havent seen a trip down the 1/4 mile and they are free

If it's a recall, then it's a safety issue. If it was only a noise issue it would be issued as a TSB

I'd be weary installing used gears period...let alone gears removed as a recall and supposed to be thrown away.

With as much money as you have invested in your car...why cut corners?

Actually it wasn't even the gears that was the problem, it was a shim issue. But the TSB told techs to replace everything in the rear end. There is pretty much NOTHING wrong with the gears, except they are used....barely.

As far as the whine noise, it was only noticeable because Explorers are quiet, and even then you could barely hear it. In a Mustang, there is no way you will hear anything.
