Sad Story, My friends and I went cruisin, and wondered how I kept running away from them, so when we stopped they asked me to pop my hood and show them what I had (theyre used to seeing 4bangers - theyre ricers) and they were still shocked that they couldnt keep up with a V8. So when one of em closed it when I was busy talking with someone else I wasnt paying attention so when I got in like an hour later and drove home, it flew up and smashed through my windshield, breaking the hood in half. So to save money for paint, Im gonna get a carbon fiber hood (i know I know, no rice comments, its only for cost efficience, i can get one for $250. But will i need hood pins to make sure this **** doesnt happen again? If AT ALL possible id like to avoid em because that will DEFINTELY look ricey with a CF hood and pins, id rather not have them, but safety first. Any suggestions would be helpful - Thanks

well you should have had them on there in the first place but by all means.....and for the love of god.....do not get a carbon fiber hood. you might as well get a 4 story wing on there. id rather you have a white hood on there with hood pins than a cf hood....

That really sucks. I stopped letting my friends touch my vehicles when a girl kicked the side of my truck, cracking the paint. She offered to buy "touch up paint", and that was it. Stupid women.

If the hood is meant to fit OEM style, then there is no need for the hood pins. Unless you think you could forget this happened and let one of your friends shut/open your hood.

Start calling junkyards and see if you can find a hood for cheaper. I bet you could get one real cheap. Just need to paint it.

If you sand/primer/patch the hood yourself, you will save a lot of money. Also, it's off of the car, so it will be easy for them to paint it. Call around and find the cheapest place.

Because if you get a carbon fiber hood, you can't leave it as is. If you did, I would hide in a rice bowl and throw some at you. :nonono:

i know it seems a little ricey, but i DO kinda like the look of em, its not like im getting a goddamn invader bodykit and a SR race wing with fart can exhaust. I mean I got some pop with this thing and CF seems the most economical to fix it and have it look good. Its not That bad but I am pissed about the hood pins because they WILL look rice with the CF hood, i might paint the pins black so theyre not noticable

I disagree on the carbon fiber hood... what made carbon fiber "ricer"? Itys freaking racy if anything. I'm concidering one for my car. Definitely get hood pins.
AHH!!! finally!!!! someone who agrees with me!!!....carbon fiber serves a purpose...sure its looked at as ricey by many cuz its a big mod in the ricer scene BUT look at stuff like the Ferrare F40, and F50...the whole dam car is made of the stuff...body panels, interior panels EVERYTHING, those cars look so sick up close...you can feel and see the weave of the carbon fiber through the paint....if i could have good carbon body panels made for my car id do it in a heart beat....and id have the stuff painted laser red....

....word for the wiser though...any carbon hood that costs less than a normal fiberglass hood is NOT WORTH THE MONEY...its probably a crappy single layer hood that will start to split and crack within a year....good carbon fiber is expensive, more expensive than fiberglass that is....never get a carbon fiber product that is cost efficient, cuz its CRAP...trust me..all of my buddies drive Hondas and the ones who try and save money on the carbon hood are disappointed that they did so...

edit i made a carbon hood with photoshop a while ago....

As long as you make sure that the hood is fully shut before taking off, there shouldn't be any need for pins. They are a nice backup safety device if you just aren't sure about it.

There's no difference in running around with an unpainted carbon fiber hood and running around with an unpainted fiberglass hood. I would paint it eventually, but at least unpainted carbon fiber looks halfway decent IMO. I would love to have a CF hood, primarily for the weight reduction. Nothing ricey about it at all, even with pins!

i love my fiberglass hood cause it is light as can be. i personally think a clear coat "white" hood looks better than a carbon fiber hood. most (not saying all of course) people that buy one keep them that color and dont paint them. i guess if you wanted to paint it sometime soon then thats fine but its a bit ricey not painted. makes it looks like thats permanant and you arent going to paint it anytime soon or ever. at least with the white, it you can say you got in an accident and its going to be painted when you have the money.

who cares what people think???...most people would probably like a unpainted carbon hood over a white hood....it would just be the ignorant domestic owners who think the carbon is rice...

yeah you have a good point, im definetly going with quality, it was a 250 dollar hood but it was on ebay and it was from VIS, and I know their stuffs good cuz a couple of buddys have hoods from them. Hood pins, probably just for safety cuz this **** isnt happening again. Once everything is done (prob a week or two) ill post pics and you guys can decide for yourselves if you like it or not.

Well, for you guys saying that you don't need hood pins with a fiberglass or CF hood must not have been around long, or haven't paid attention to the HUNDREDS of post about these such hood flying up while driving. I have read so many that I thought it was common knowledge by now that if you go with a CF or fiberglass hood, you need to put hood pins on. I know I will have hood pins when I do a hood. For one they add to the race look, and secondly they are lighter than the factory hood latch assembly.

I'm SO SICK of the ricer crap... it makes me want to puke when I hear the word anymore. It seems like anything not stock is "ricer" anymore. If someone wants to do something out of the ordinary to their car, why shouldn't they? And if they do, why label it ricer? AHHH, this drives me nuts!

could u paint the carbon fiber hood to match your car?? know one will ever know you have carbon fiber then....
I could pant it but if i got anything painted i would paint the whole car (id want the whole thing to look nice not just the hood) and thats just not in my budget, CF looks nice and I wouldnt need to paint it, so I just want to see if there are any alternatives to hoodpins, like A ****ING LATCH THAT WORKS or something, let me know if anyone knows of anything

I agree with viper and canary, **** the haters, if you like it just do it, its your car. Thats why you CUSTOMIZE a car - to have something different and original, theres no formula, just do it if you like it. If everyone had the same car and the same opinion there wouldnt be a mustang at all.

im not a hater on everything...just the things that the ricers do. i dont consider too many things on domestics (no im not an ignorant domestic driver) as rice. i personally think its ugly but its only rice in my book because every single ricer has done it. i have 2 stickers on my car. some woudl call that rice, other wouldnt. i call it rice if it is japanese letter or putting more than one of the products that is in your car (mine are an emt sticker and my www.ricehatersclub.com .....some think that is rice in itself but i promote a site that makes fun of the 4' wings, fart can or dual exhaust and other worthless crap put on cars that do nothing towards it but make it look bad).

now some might so put cobra badges on a gt....i say dont. sorry, just my opinion. some think their shogun body kit looks good or maybe a double decker wing. i cant stand it. thats just me. i like a body kit like many others but there are some disgusting looking cars out there. rice is like beauty.....everyone has their own opinion of what it is. some like skinny girls, some like with a lil "tail" to them. same with cars....i was just saying that ricers ruined the carbon fiber look and thats why i call it that but i think it doesnt look good anyways......IMHO

do it if YOU.....YOU think it will look good. dont listen to us but you did ask it here so you will get our opinions. your choice right along with your car. i know my car gets made fun of sometimes cause i have "too big" of a hood for my car. whatever, i think it looks good. look above on my feelings towards it
