I do appreciate the opinions of everyone and it seems kinda 50/50, i do like the look so i think it will do with it. Im sure the cowl hood is fine and its just guys with hondas who say its too big because it would make theyre ass engines look too small. Thanks for all the input.

I'm with everybody that says to go with the CF hood. Just because the import guys are doing something doesnt mean it is rice. The reason the import guys put CF hoods and big wings on their cars is because they want to look like RACE cars. It only becomes ridiculous when they do it on their mother's Econo-Box. Go ahead and do what you want to do, I'm sure the hood will look good.

no promises here but i know of a private place that could get you a stock hood for <200$. So if you want more info pm me because i'll sure forget and am not gonna look for the info if you're not in. They don't ship for some reason and since it's local to me it's probably about an hour north of you. If you're willing to take the trip let me know.

I should have bought a new hood but since i'm a cheap @ss i just got the corner patched up- the top looks new, underneath is a different story.

BTW- sometimes i think i have closed the hood and have to check again. Maybe the guy was just trying to be careful and it was a total accident, but nevertheless, i guess i wouldn't let them open/close it either- hood pins sounds and looks like a great idea

CF hoods are nice looking in my opinion. So are aftermarket wings. It's a question of how tastefully you do them. And I get fired up when I talk about body kits and domestic owners shake their heads. Not everything that is done appearance wise to a car has to be fast and furious.

off topic - I think hoodpins are a good idea regardless of what hood you're running. They are such a cheap mod and IMO slick looking that it makes sense. After hearing this story and a couple others, I think I'm gonna pick some up for my stock hood.

What fades on it, the "black" look? I might be getting a CF hood and the place I might get it from saw my car and suggested I leave the center the bare looking CF, and paint from the cowl seam outward yellow to match my car. I'm thinking it might look bad ass.

mustangmatt- our hoods are made of some sort of composite. They are not fiberglass, nor are they metal. They are no where near as flimsy as some aftermarket fiberglass hoods.

BTW- sometimes i think i have closed the hood and have to check again

Man I do this almsot everytime I drag race. I'l be almost ready to pull up to the burnout box and I start wondering "did I shut my hood all the way"... then I jump out with my helmet on and re-check it. I'm so fearful of it not being latched and coming up on me.

I think the main reason I get mad about the whole ricer thing is because like hazmat said
but its only rice in my book because every single ricer has done it
That is what upsets me. Why should you fear someone will call you a ricer if you put a sticker on your car, or a wing, etc. I hate that the "ricers" have ruined it for the rest of us that wouldn't mind adding something tasteful to our cars, but since "every ricer" has it the entire world will mock and scorn you for putting it on your mustang... that's just sad IMO. If it looks good, why not put it on. I just think the entire "ricer bashing" needs to be toned down a little. I mean look at us in this thread. We're debating if a carbon fiber hood belongs on a mustang... why the hell wouldn't it.

yeah, I agree with the whole dumb rice hater thing, if you like it just do it because stangs at least have power to back up whatever you put on them. Thanks for the quote on the stock hood for under 200, but if I needed I could prob get one for like 100 because I know a used car dealer and he can hook it up. I just decided to go with CF because I dont want to deal with paint. Ill get one from VIS so I know it will be quality. Hoodpins - not my favorite but im gonna get em because i dont want this to happen again.

Hey killercanary, procarparts.com has some nice carbon fiber hoods, and they have one thats called yellow carbon fiber, its like $450 and its basically carbon fiber (they call it carbon kelvlar) just tinted yellow a little bit, I think it might look nice with your yellow paint. heres a link to it: http://www.procarparts.com/store-detail.asp?sku=FD94MT-8120HOX

Why would a lighter hood be freaking rice? Because ricers put CF hoods? Ricers have 4 cylinders, we have eight - does that make us twice the rice than they are? Good God the fear of being a ricer is crazy!

Go ahead with the CF hood, it will save a few pounds! Then go with the lightweight K-member, alum. heads, remove the power steering, battery in trunk, insulation under the carpet, etc... Weight is your enemy, get rid of it. A lightweight hood would have been my #1 mod (since the car needs to be repainted) but I don't have the funds yet. I'd go CF myself, maybe even unpainted.

I agree completely with Killercanary and others about the ricer thing. I've actually had people tell me they don't like my wing and my clear headlights/corners because they're ricey .

mustangmatt685-What color is your car? I have a factory laser red hood laying around if your interested.

ok no offense but MSD and 373's and alum driveshaft doesnt add h.p.

underdrives are 10hp and 70mm tb is maybe 2hp... the exhaust gives you maybe 15hp tops.

so ur probably at 200-210rwhp...

sorry i dont mean to be snotty or what not, but just letting you know.

I asked my painter about the factory hood construction when he was fabbing up a section of it, due to a messed up section on mine. He said it was essentially just really, really thick heavy fiberglass. There's probably some urethane or something to that effect in there as well.

There are quite a few Mustangs around me that have run aftermarket hoods for years without pins, some of them have been driven at some insane speeds on the highway. All of their hoods are really thick, nice pieces as compared to some of the flmsy ones I've seen. The one guy I know that did have his hood fly back was using a really cheap and flimsy hood, I think it was a Cincinati Composites hood.

I would use pins anyway if I had any doubts about the hood or the latch. It's one of those things that's hard to judge without being able to check it out first hand.

Didnt read half this crap but I wanted to say that Ive liked the bare carbon fiber look way before you domestic diehards knew they existed. They look racy as hell and looks balls on a beefy car like a stang.

To me, rice is taking a slow car (usually an import) and trying to make it look like a fast car by putting things on it that people who actually have fast cars put on their cars. Some people who build fast cars use carbon hoods. CF is a good thing.

Let's not forget that the GTR, only one of the baddest mustangs ever built, has a carbon fiber hood. There is nothing wrong (or rice) with being a little like that.
