I'm in the middle of an I6 to V8 conversion. Picked up the rear end, already have the 289 and auto trans. The guy I bought the rear end from threw in some 1970 drums for $10 with the wheels. I was debating a front disc set-up originally, but time and money make me think about putting it off for now. Is there any point to bump up to the larger 1970 front drums instead of the I6 standards from the 1968?

Thanks!

Yes, keep those 70 drum spindles... the 70 spindles are larger and more sturdy with larger bearings. If you really don't want to bother with the conversion, the 70 drum spindles are an "in demand" item. You probably can get some decent cash for them. If I'm not mistaken, Cobra Automotive sells refurbished 70 drum spindles for vintage race setups, priced around $300 or $400.

correct me if im wrong, but you didnt get the spindles, just drums, right? if so, you will need spindles to go with the drums, and as was mentioned, 70 spindles are kind of hard to come by...

Spindles, too. . .

No, I got the spindles as well. They are obviously a lot bigger than what's on the I6 and I'll end up replacing tie rods and who knows what else. I didn't know they were valuable, seeing how I paid $10 for them AND the drums and wheels, too. Maybe I can afford those disc brakes after all!
