Front brakes for my 66 fastback.

Here's an update on my progress.

I'm mocking up the front brakes for my 66. I had a C5 Corvette caliper and rotor left over from from my last project.

Using the 66 drum brake hub, I made a centering ring that locates the rotor to the hub. Redrilled the rotor to match the 4.5" Ford bolt circle.

Next is fabricating the caliper brackets. Mock up pieces out .25" cold rolled steel to get pattern right and figure out the caliper centerline over the rotor. I plan on using the four bolt holes in the 66 spindle to mount the bracket.

Final caliper brackets out of 3/8" cold rolled steel. Some kits use aluminum caliper brackets, is steel going to add too much weight?

Any comments on my plan?

I should have some photos this week end.

I don't think the extra holes in the rotor will be any proplem. These are the mock up rotors. If everything works out as planned, I will use new drilled and slotted rotors from Raybestos. I will still need to redrill for the 4.5" bolt pattern.

I will use the PBR single piston calipers on the rear. Does anyone make just the caliper bracket for the 9" versallies rearend?

As you can tell I am trying to build a less expensive "Baer" brake system.

Did it for my Camaro and saved about half the money.
