When I installed the TMC handling kit (20+ years ago) on my '68, I seem to recall reading about the option to cut the front coil springs to adjust the car's stance. While the car handles nicely, I've never liked the stance much, the front end a 1/2" higher than the rear (makes it look a bit like the old Willys at the dragstrip...a bit).

There was a rule of thumb (non progressive springs), something like "remove a quarter turn of the spring to lower the car 1/2," and to cut the free end of the spring, not the tapered end that makes the spring flat on top.

Does anyone know the "rule of thumb" offhand, and is this even a good idea?

Thanks.

I think you may find there is not a general rule of thumb since engine sizes and other power add on as well as springs can make a difference. On mine I took a quarter off at a time to get stance I wanted - I have a 347 with all the power add ons. A 1/2 coil got me about an inch - which is pretty close to what you stated. I'd do a qtr at a time though - can always take off more.

Excellent, thanks! I'll try a quarter and hope for the best.
