Front-End Question

I've got a '65 Fastback and I'd like to lower the front-end slightly. Is it as simple as installing a shorter spring, or is it more complicated than that? If I also wanted to stiffen the front-end, what type of springs would you suggest?

They make a 620 lb/in front spring with a 1 inch drop that sounds like exactly what you are looking for, it will stiffen the suspension and drop your car about an inch. Just about any Mustang parts house has them.

you could also do a "shelby drop". It's more work, but if you do a search on the forum you'll find a number of threads about it. It will improve the car's handling as well as lowering the front end.

Exactly. Simply adding the spring will lower & stiffen the front end. a very simple upgrade.

HOWEVER: if your suspension is worn out and sagging, installing a fresh LOWERING spring might actually RAISE the front end. Also, if your suspension is worn out, it might not be a bad idea to replace everything front and rear, and not just the front springs. you won't benefit fully from the new springs if the rest of your setup is shot.

The front suspension on the car is still relatively new, I just never cared for the typical stance you get from the stock set-up. Sound like the 1" shorter springs may be exactly what I'm after!

If the front suspension is relatively new, and you don't want to spend $ to replace perfectly good springs, you might also consider cutting your coils. That will give the same lowering/stiffening effect. Depending on the brand and condition of your front struts, you may not need to upgrade.

I don't care for the typical "nose high" stock stance either....
