Front Springs

Got my 89 lx that pulls to the left alligned today. They said it pulls to the left because the front springs are worn out. They said that the coils are touching. They quoted me $850 dollars to change out all four springs with parts and labor.

I know this is a bunk price because I can change this myself. I am just worried that they are making this up to justify why my car pulls to the left. They alligned it out of spec to compensate for the pull and go straight. But they said the tires will wear unevenly and that I should change out the springs and then get it realligned properly.

Does this sound like someone is trying to rip me off? Could worn coil springs screw up my allignment?

Yes, sagging springs can cause a pull by throwing off alignment. Measure ride hight at the pinch weld nearest to the tire on all four corners on level land, the front and rear can read differently from each other but the front two corners should read the same and the rear two corners should also be the same. Even if the ride hight is uneven, it could be more than a spring causing this, a blown or siezed shock/strut can also cause this as well as worn bushings. BTW: the coils are suposed to touch at the bottoms.

#1 cause of pull is tire pull. This is either because of uneven tire pressures or a bad tire. If your car is riding even but still pulls, swap the right and left tires and see if it pulls the other way, if so it's the tire issue.

Try these things and if they don't work then come back and re-post or PM me because there are other factors, less likley, but still possible that can cause a pull.

$850 to swap out some springs? Thats bull****e, take your business somewhere else. And the whole thing they were trying to feed you about the springs being worn... smells extra fishy. I just put in some "C" springs in my '89 LX and the stockers were fine, in fact too fine cuz the front was riding higher than the rear and when I took them out they were symetrical to within a 1/16th of an inch long.

wow 850 to get your springs done!??? better go some where else!!!

about a month ago i did all four of mine... ordered ford racing c springs 150 and got em installed at a lil tire shop for 150!! look around go to a bunch of places to get a quote.. i went to midas to and they quoted me 560 to do all four and thats if they bought the parts

Dude, are the coils really touching? I have never seen a spring that clapped out. The ride would really suck if that were the case.

Second opinions are always nice.

Good luck.
