New to this forum, hello from the great lakes,I? have a conundrum, bought a 1989 supposed gt but it has a regular maf 302 in it replaced upper and lower intake gaskets, injectors, ignition module, coil, ignition switch, put a cold air on it,new fuel pump, wires cap rotor plugs, I had it wired the h.o way ran real rough, realizing the throttle body was on drivers side made me wonder if it wasn't a h.o so I wired the plug wires for non h.o it started right up and purred till I turned it off the the issues came it starts up and dies within a couple seconds every time so I thought timing chain replaced that to no avail still same thing starts then quits, could it be a bad e.c.u?I'm baffled any help would be a God send ty in advance

You really need to ID what it is you have and try and sort out of the parts are compatible. Did it ever run?

Check the catch code on the computer for clues as to what vehicle the engine came out of.

If I were to guess, it sounds like it was perhaps a 4-cylinder that was swapped to a V8 with a complete harness swap out of a 1986-1991 Crown Vic/Grand Marquis.

Post up some pictures of what you have.

Definitely looks like a 5.0 straight out of a Crown Vic that's missing the passenger side accessory brackets. Remove that intake tube and take a look at the throttle body. The Crown Vic/Grand Marquis came with a much smaller throttle body than even the Mustangs had.

Check VIN.

Digits 5,6 and 7 will tell you what body style the chassis was born as. It will start with a P4x. Factory GT hatch will be P42.

Digit 8 is engine code. A will be 4 cyl, E will be V8.

For a Foxbody, alternator is on wrong side and intake facing wrong way. Battery has been moved to passenger side too. I would agree with above and likely a Crown Vic engine.

Does look like you have a V8 tach/cluster (4 cyl only goes to 6k).

So what is the vin? If it was a factory GT, why not swap the intake when putting the standard 302 in? This is odd.

It's a p42 so it's a factory gt hatch, just everything else is cobbled

Taht's how Indian Outlaw (my 'stang) acted when the ECU went bad. Couldn't find a new one anywhere and finally took it to AutoZone and had it rebuilt for $200.

F-150's didn't come from the factory with roller cams until 1992, although they were probably roller ready blocks for several years prior.
