OH OK, Figured you would notice it first and more in lower gears like 1st and 2nd being the car has the most pick-up in those. Sounds wierd but I am not second guessing you at all. I appreciate your help on this man.

you're starting at a stop, which gear is it on?? the biggest gear, right?? Now step on the pedals with all your might, and what happens?? it goes forward, FAST!!!!!!
Now, picture this...you're cruising at a comfortable pace in the smallest gear, your speed gear, and you've JUST finished cycling up the biggest hill of your life. Suddenly, out of ****ing no where comes the two biggest dogs in your life, and they're about to do some serious damage.
What do you do??? You slam on the pedals HARD to go, but you're in the smallest gear, so what happens?? It's like hitting a brick wall, and is HARD to pedal......
same thing with a car,....... so when you're in the higher gears, and you step on the gas, and it just revs, that's the clutch saying, "I'm too pooped to do this anymore, it's too hard to turn the motor"
sorry for the stupid description, that's just the best way I could describe it after drinking a few.

well I'm telling you i had them same thing happen and thought it was the clutch and it turned out to be the cable!! hell of a lot cheaper to change the cable72$ them to change the clutch 500$!!!! mine did the same thing wouldn't go into gear hard time shifting! lil bit of grinding! changed the melted cable and what do you know!!! good as new!! check your cable first!! if its not the problem then its the clutch!
you are correct, however the problem you describe is entirely different than the one he describes. You describe the exact scenario that would occur with a bad or misadjusted clutch cable.
On the other hand, he experiences NONE of the symptoms that you do, and is consistent with a bad clutch. I agree to not change parts not needed, however $50+ for a clutch cable when not needed can add a big expense.
To check the cable, unhook it at the fork and at the firewall, pull the cable in and out of the sheath, it should slide fairly easily. If it does, your cable is fine, if it doesn't, it's binding because of a bad bend, or just plain bad.
