recently replaced the filler tube grommet on a 2000 stang. after putting it back together i couldn't fill up the tank without it shutting off the pump every 2 seconds. after doing some research apparently i messed up he valve at the end of the filler tube which is there to prevent syphoning/ gas spilling in the event of a rollover...

my question is can i just bust off this stupid "safety" valve instead of replaceing the entire filler tube? will there be any other problems resulting from this, other than having gas spill in the event of a rollover?

can't really fill the tank slower, as soon as i pull the pump it spurts out a small stream of gas, then shuts off, recently it's been spilling out of the top of the tube because it won't go past this stupid cut off valve.....not really planning on rolling my stang so i don't think i'm going to die in a fire :)

haven't actually snapped it off yet though, i think it might just be jammed, i'm going to take it apart again today and try to dislodge it first, i was just wondering it it would throw a code or leak if i took it off.....thanks

pulled back apart, turns out the cutoff valve is a little floater inside a metal cage, guess i bent the surrounding cage a little and the valve got stuck in the closed position. all i had to do was stick a screw driver in and open up the cage a little to free it up....so the moral is be careful when removing and replaceing this tube because the fuel cutoff valve is kind of sensitive, no big deal....thanks for the help guys
