FUEL DOOR-> on guage cluster? what is it for

im not tring to sound stupid but i noticed this on my guage cluster today and noticed that it dosen't work is it supposed to work i turned the car on then got out and opened the fuel door and un did the gas cap no lights i noticed that our car also has a check fuel cap light also never seen it come on even when i forgot to replace the gas cap (one time).

i could be just as dumb as you, but my guess would be that it just is reminding you that the fuel door is on the passenger side ----> instead of on the driver side like most every other car.

The Check Gas Cap will light when the Engine PCM senses a fuel system vapor leak. The PCM only test for this after certain conditions. If you leave your gas cap off and go for a cruise on the highway with under 3/4 tank of fuel, the light will come on.

If Ford would just put the damn fuel door on the driver side, they wouldn't have to worry about putting a little reminder in the gauge cluster.

The first time I noticed a reminder was when me and my dad were in Cali and we rented a Focus... so it does help with rental cars and such.

The first few times I got gas, and I actually needed to make use of it, I could never find it.

I never knew what it was for. Thought it meant the door was open
