Fuel Filter Replacement Question

I'm going through my Hayne's manual instructions to swap out my fuel filter. It is instructing me to use the fuel shut-off valve in the trunk and then run the motor until it cuts out to de-pressurize the system. I'm worried that this could harm the motor especially since I'm running a supercharger. Does anyone know of a way to de-pressurize without running the motor dry (am I being overly cautious on this?) or has anyone changed the fuel filter without de-pressurizing the fuel system...do you get a full tank of gas on the garage floor if you do this? Thanks for the help.

I have always unpluged the inertia switch on my 89 and started it up. It would only run for a few seconds before it ran out. I recently bought an 02, and tried the same thing. It just kept running. I reved it a couple times and it still ran. I just turned it off and replaced the filter. Only a few drops of gas came out of the line.

Same thing with mine. I turned the engine off and let it sit for a while. I even unplugged the fuel pump by taking out the fuse in the fuse block and for some reason it still ran. Not good, but it ran.
