Where on an 01 GT would the fuel filter be located? Also what is involved in changing it? What brand do I need etc? Should I just go to the dealer and ask them for what I need? Thanks for any help you guys can provide!

The filter is just in front of the tank under the car. You'll need a spring lock tool which can be purchased at an auto parts store. They should also have your filter. Inside your trunk (left side, rear I believe) is a connector you need to disconnect to relieve fuel pressure. (Fuel cutoff switch)? Regardless, expect some residual fuel spillage. Wear goggles and have some towels handy. Good luck! :nice:

i havent cahnged mine on the 02 yet, but it is right behing the rear bumper cover. when i changed them on my 5.0's i didnt use any tools or shut off the gas or whatever. its held on with 2 plastic clips that just pop off and a minimal ammount of gas leaks out, nothing to be worried about. you dont even need to jack up the car to change it.

Another trick you can do is there should be a fuse you can pull for the fuel pump. Pull that then start/run the car. The motor will use the fuel in the lines/filter and have less spillage. Me, I just got tired of messing with it so I just pull the filter off my Cougar without doing that and let it spill.

I'm replacing my fuel filter and PCV valve this weekend.

Just wanted to let you know that when I asked my local Ford parts dealer the price for these items they wanted $22.46 (fuel filter) and $12.50 (PCV valve). I was able to buy the exact same ones from Mustangs Unlimited for $11.95 and $6.95 respectively. And with the shipping added, the whole thing was still $11.00 cheaper than buying from Ford. Shipping took 3 days to my door from time of order.

Ok well I tried to remove the fuel filter last ngiht with absolutly no luck. I got that tool you mentioned in that thread but in my noobish ways, how the hell exactly is it used???

Do you need to find the right sized whole and stick it in the larger side of the tapered piece of fiel line?
