OK, this is probably a really stupid question, but anyway, I have a 2002 GT, I want to change the fuel filter, where is it? and can it just be pulled off and replaced, or, is it Pressurized and need to be clamped off? I want to start doing things on my own, so I'm trying to learn. I also want to change the plugs, but have no idea how I can even get to them.

Thanks

how many miles are on your car? i change my fuel filter ever 15k. anyway, you need a special tool to get the clamps off the fuel filter which is located right in front of the fuel tank. Watch out, there will be fuel all over the place.

Changing plugs, i got autolite 764's resistor plugs. They are copper and last a shorter life but perform better. They are one step colder plug. I would recommend you take your time doing the spark plug and DO NOT CROSS THREAD THEM!.. Use a small amount of anti-seize with your new plugs.

Hint: fuel rails do not need to come out to change plugs.

ok this is exactly what i need to know, how to change the sparkplugs?? I see the rail is right on top, i need to remove the coils and then pull ou the plugs and unscrew the sparkplug? If someone could give me the best detail explanation they could, i would really appreciate it(not that you care :-) Also im going to use nitrous soon what plugs should i get, i know a step colder right, that would be 6 then, someone told me NGKs??
Thanks

thanks for your help, I have 22k on my car, should of changed it awhile back, but will do it every 15k from now on.

Thanks for the hint, I just found a site that has instructions of changing them on a 01 Bullitt, so now I at least know where they are! it also mentioned there is a schrader valve on the passenger side fuel rail with a black cap on it that will release the pressure, says you need a special tool, but I'll see if one is at least there.

that's like the spark plug change for dummies.. i doubt you need to do ALL the things he's doing.

anyway,
1. first off unscrew the COPs one at a time
2. unscrew spark plug
3. place new spark plug with a little anti-seize
4. hand tighten first and then use the socket to hand tighten
5. follow 1-4 again with the next spark.

it's very simple just be careful that you don't cross-thread..

I also have a 02 GT and had the fuel filter changed right before 15K miles. I didn't have the special tool, so I let the dealership tackle it for about $40.

I've changed the filter out on my pickup several times though.

remove the bolt that holds the cop in place, you will need to remove the tube to the TBfor the passenger side. you can pull the cop off the spark plugs and change without touching the fuel rails. as for spark plugs, use copper and 1 step colder, try this out for info, I like the Motorcraft, NGK or Autolites for nitrous.

Thanks for the info, With the tool, the fuel filter was easy. I will get to the plugs probably next weekend. I need to decide which type to get.

If I go with copper, 1 step colder, what differences should I expect? I'm just starting to look into mods, and haven't done anything yet. Will I notice any difference if I'm still stock?

I have one more quick question, im going to be installing a wet kit and running 100 shot, my car is stock except the intake and the exhaust, so besides the spark plugs, i shouldn't need anything else correct? Tell me anything you may recommend as far as safty goes, just got the car less than two months ago and don't want to have to take it for a swim.

Rpm window switch, fuel pressure saftey switch. go with one step colder than stock copper plug. timing should be fine for 100 shot. Bottle warmer recommended. :nice:
which wet kit are you looking at ? some come complete with all the safety eq.

With the right fuel line tool, it took about 5 minutes to change the filter on my 03 cobra. The solid axle in the GT is much easier to get around than the IRS. If you can get the car on a lift, it is very easy to get to. I bled the fuel pressure off by bleeding the valve on the fuel rail. After changing the filter, cycle the key several times--slowly--to let the fuel pressure build back in the line and rails.

Im getting one from a friend is a universal wet kit from Nitrous works, i should get that fuel pressure switch huh, that goes connected somewhere to the FPR? Thanks alot for your info, oh one more thing, which plugs would you recommend? I had in mind the NGK's tr6 i beleive those are the step colder ones. Thanks
