Fuel filter?

How often do you guys replace it? According to ford's maintenance schedule, replace ever 30k miles...

i did get it changed at 30k...now i'm at 60k miles. hehe...

so also, is it easy to replace? should it just come off easily and put back on? At least it's easy to get to!

I've just noticed over the past month that my gas mileage seems to have decreased more than i would like....Trying to think of more things to check/replace/do....

yes fuel filter should be changed @every 30k and they are easy to-do but I doubt if your fuel filter is causing your decrease in MPG

30K or every 2 years, according to the Haynes manual (FWIW).

BTW, I don't know if you store your car in the Winter or not. If you do, put some Redline fuel injector cleaner into your tank after you take it back out on the road. My fuel mileage was okay, but after I put this in, my mileage increased quite a bit.

I was thinking about doing a fuel inj cleaner. My bf said that stuff does nothing. I used it on my old Geo college car and i drove it for 174k miles and sold it still driving great.

your bf is correct, injection cleaner is a waste of $$. since @1992 FoMoCo has used "deposit resistant" fuel injectors, so cleaning them is a waste of time and money.
I'd look else where for you lost MPG. how many miles in the car?

well at @60k, could be a couple of things. first it could be the fuel, now a-days there is alot of Ethanol in fuels today and that alone could cause a decrease in fuel miliage.
also at @60k the O2 sensors have about reaching there limits of usefulness and someother parts like sparkplugs, when was the last time they were changed?

The fuel filter is an easy 15-20 minute job. You are definately due for one.

Other things you can do to increase milage are: get an alignment, air up your tires, and change spark plugs.

I check my tires weekly, spark plugs were changed around 46K miles.

I put in new shocks, struts and subframe connectors last month and needed an allignment then so that should be good.

I haven't changed my O2 sensors yet and might soon. Seems one is bad anyway.

Anyway just for future reference if this thread gets searched, replacing the fuel filter is pretty simple. Just get the disconnect tool from Autozone (the O-shaped one with the spring.) You can use the ones in the writeup below, but the spring ones are much easier (in my opinion) to get to work the first time.

Hmmm. It had helped my car after it had been sitting all Winter. Not sure why/how etc. I'll end up using it again in the Spring anyways.

Randy --> Could you give me a price quote on a fuel tank gasket (the one that goes between the filler neck and the tank on an '02 GT? I just need the price so I can order the part locally! Much appreciated!

Soo...

Changed out the O2 sensors, found a small exhaust leak and fixed that. Changed the fuel filter...
She's still misfiring. I thought it was gone a few months ago, but it's still there. Spark plugs have been changed...

Misfires mostly right when you start it up, esp in the morning. It did it at the shop yesterday though, after not running for an hour.



My bf has way less problems than I have and he gives it more hell than I do mine.
