Now I have seen on my message center how it reads "Fuel Level Low" at 50 miles remaining, but this morning it reached 10 miles remaining and the fuel gauge portion of the dash turned all red. Interesting...

data error also turns it red

FYI, Recently my fuel sending unit went bad. The message center was indicating bad data and the guage showed empty and turned red. It sure got my attention.

saw this first week I had my 07. Funny cause it added that little extra sense of urgency to get to the station.

That's a pretty cool nice little touch. Ford should do more stuff like that.

So what happens if your gauges are red already? Does it go blue?

This is nothing new. Now for what happens if you have the gauges red, the gas gauge is a different shade of red which I haven't been able to match with the MYCOLOUR option yet.

If I was driving with lees than 10 miles to go, I'd be more concerned about sucking up sediment at the bottom of the tank.

And my understanding that it is not good for it sucks air instead of gas and damages the pump because the fuel helps cool the pump.

+1 Running your tank low will overheat the fuel pump.

Gauge isn't accurate that way, they have the display reading out way early.. Pulled my rail connect line when the guage read zero miles left and had been in the red for about 75 miles and I still removed 2.5 gallons of fuel before emptying the tanks.

Rolling down the interstate one day in kooldawg's neck of the woods, mine jumped from showing twenty something miles to empty to showing 6 miles to empty in a matter of about 3 miles of travel. That was the last time I plan to play it that close.

Unfotunately that's what happens with these split tanks, your spot on with the complaint though. Classic

All I know is that when I stopped to fill her up, she took 14.217 gals with an advertise tank of 14.5. I know there is still fuel in the lines routed all about the car and the filler neck, but can't be more than a gallon I'd imagine. Anyways, that will be the last time I get her down that far on purpose...hopefully. I usually stop right before or after it displays the 50 to go.

Just checked, it is 16 gal tank...my bad. So yes the est. to empty is way wrong. With 10 miles left to go I still had nearly 1.75 gals left...

I checked my log book (yes, I keep one on every car I own & have for the last 20+ years) and the most I've put into the GT at fill up has been 15.89 gallons.
