fuel gauge

does anyone kno wwhere i can get a fuel gauge for my 87 TC, i called the local junkyard and they say they dont have any of those "old" cars in their yard, or does anyone know of what else i can check since my fuel gauge doesnt work??

Mr TurboChicken, the trouble might be in the tank sending unit, rather than the gauge. IIRC, there's three or four wires going to the tank, one of which is the sender wire for the gauge. If you can find this wire, and ground it to the chassis, the gauge will peg showing a full tank. If you don't get any gauge movement, the gauge is bad. If the gauge moves, the tank sending unit is bad.

A wiring diagram will help to find the gauge sender wire, unless someone here knows the color.

so then would i have to buy a whole new pump to get the sending unit?

no, the pump is seperate from the sending unit. You can replace just the sending unit if it is at fault. Mine is bad and I'm to cheap to replace it. Local parts store wants 70$ for it. yikes.

hmm, thats kinda weird, cause i work at an auto parts store and i couldnt seem to find one in our computer...what parts store you know of that you can get it??

Advance auto parts is where I looked up the fuel level sender.

very very odd then, cause thats where i work....hmmm, i think ill just order a gauge from somewhere and hope that it will hook up and work...if i got a "sunpro" gauge would it work in place of my stock one?

I've got a stock guage for an 87/88. But I agree with others, I'd say it's the sending unit.

can someone find me a link to a sending unit or something, cause i dont know where else to look
