Alright, so I'm finally working my way around the cars exisiting problems, and now I'm approaching the fuel system. The fuel light's always on and the gauge says theres no gas in the tank. (Clearly there is, as it's a daily driver) (car's an '88 with EFI)
Any ideas on what should be replaced, I was told my fuel pump - but I'm getting gas, is it a relay issue?

Thanks,
Senior Idiot, err plastic_cow

Ain't the pump.. its probably the fuel level sending unit.. It could be stuck or just went bad.. Kinda comon for those to go.. Start with that

lol, either stuck float, or bad wiring/switch. I dont think they are that expensive might as well replace the whole unit in the gas tank.

yup................. 60 dollars is what i paid thru ford. the reason your fuel light stays on is because your sender on the float is bad and it is trippin off the sensor for low fuel.

Fuel light???

was that only on the older fox's?
I dont have it either.

Oh yeah back to your problem lol

Id say its the sending unit too,
Ive replaced a few of these at work,
Not too uncommon for these to fail

Yeah, I've been dealing with driving 250 miles and filling up my tank for the past year, it's time to shell out the cash... 60 bucks eh? not too shabby. Thanks for the advice!

FYI the sender is on the driver side of the tank, seperate from the fuel pump.

I always change both at the same time and a new filler neck seal !!
