87 Mustang GT carbed Holley Blue electric pump

Video pretty much says it all. When the pressure goes from the preset 6.5psi down to 2 or 3, Im met with near silence from the pump. (and holley blue pumps are loud normally) Then it bumps back up to 6, pump makes normal sound, then back down to 2 or 3, near silence again. New fuel filter too

any ideas?

thanks

theres alot on the table with this one man. what kind of regulator are you running? is it a single feed? return style? what kind of regulator are you using? do you have a fuel cell? a sumped tank? a stock tank with a home made pickup?

edit i watched the vid. have you checked the pressure at the pump? have you checked all of your grounds and hots to the pump to make sure nothing is getting hot and grounding out?

holley regulator, single feed going into double pumper carb, non return style, using stock tank with 85 style carbed pickup non sumped

I ran a red wire for the power to it. The ground is just the black off the pump goes right to the frame above it. Didnt run a separate ground just ran the pump black pigtail to the frame nearby

this only ever happens when the car/pump has been running for a while. And once it starts doing it it just keeps doing it until I turn the car/pump off and let it cool. After that it will runs fine until it heats up again.

Havent checked pressure at the pump, just at the regulator where I have the gauge at, but when the pressure drops, Im met with silence from the pump until it picks back up, and starts humming like normal again and back and forth

Sidenote: I felt the pump with my hand and it gets so hot I cannot hold my hand on it. Its not near the exhaust either

I would say the pump. Holley blue's are known to be problematic.

Ive heard that as well. Unfortunately found that out after I had it a while. if it is bad, it is only 5 months old lol...I couldnt believe how hot it got...it was like I had just grabbed the tailpipe of a car that had been running for 2 hours
