Fuel pump for 302

Hey thanks for the replies, now you say no fuel starvation..... This leads me to something i was thinking of a while back. I had posted about my car cutting out at about 3000 RPM at about 80 MPH in fourth gear and somebody mentioned fuel starvation. He thought i should replace the fuel filter, and clean it all out. Well now the the fuel pump is out, do you think that could have actually been early signs of the fuel pump going out?

Yes, certainly.
Could also be pinholes in the fuel line (rubber or steel) which would lessen the pumps drawing power.
Could also be a dirty carb (needing rebuild) that has alot of buildup in its passageways not allowing full complete fuel flow and mixture.
Just a couple other things to consider. Just because the pump did go out doesn't mean that was the sole item causing the problems, as with any old car.

It could also be a restriction anywhere from the wire mesh pickup screen to the pump inlet.
A plugged inlet on a diaphram pump plays hell with the diaphram.
I guess the most common plugging is by scuzz in a 25+ year old tank covering the pick up screen.
Then there are 25+ year old fuel hoses, the inner can seperate from the outer and pinch off flow and you'll never know by looking at them.
If either of these are the problem blowing out the lines is only a temp fix, fuel starvation will reoccure.
