Hello,

I have an inherited 89 mustang LX 5.0 that is cranking but not starting with the fuel relay not clicking and the pump not priming. I have tried bypassing at the EEC test with pretty much no success. The only thing I have been able to find is when the inertia switch is power probed the fuel relay clicks and the pump will prime. I have also noticed testing an injector with the key on or off are getting roughly .02 volts which seems very low. At this point I am thinking a hot wire is grounded somewhere as the probe is seeing ground almost all the way around the system even at the green 8 pin coming off the eec. I'm not exactly sure if I just need to keep chasing the red wire that runs that circuit or if anyone else has any suggestions?

Work the problem starting at the fuel pump relay under the drivers seat.

Do you have power? Are you getting a ground from the ECU to energize the coil in the relay? If so and the relay is not working replace it. If you are not getting power chase that. If you are not getting a ground from the ECU then it may be time to send it off to get repaired. These ECU’s are now 30+ years old and are starting to show problems. ECU Exchange does a great job fixing and refurbishing them.

This ended up being someone flipped the blue fusible link cable to the negative side of the starter solenoid. So the black/orange cable that energizes the red cable on the EEC power relay was on the negative side. That explains why I was seeing ground where current was supposed to be.
