functional side scoops?

Sorry to bump back this very old thread, but I DID use the search button!!!

Soo... If I ripped off the plastic scoop covers then I would see a wall of sheetmetal? Is the metal painted the same color as my car already?

Oh, and how do I remove the stock plastic inserts? Is it glued on or are there clamps or something so I can throw it back on easily?

I thought it would be cool to go to home depot and buy some metal honeycomb fence, pain it black and cut it to fit the shape and throw it in. But the more I think about it, the dumber an idea it sounds.

If I were to "go Bullit" would I need to buy new inserts or just remove the ones i have?

The scoop is there and even if it doesn't do much it should be functional because it looks good.

To go "Bullitt", you need Bullitt side scoops, which are essentialy scoops deletes. They fill the area where the scoops now reside. Don't pull your exisitng scoops - it's not exactly 'finished' behind them. Again, to get the 'finished' look, you'll need the Bullitts.

The Saleen scoops are functional. They do not blow air on the rear brakes, but with the full Saleen body kit it makes the car more aerodynamic and cuts down on wind resistance. At least that is what Saleen says.

But they also put some heavy 20x9 inch wheels on the 05. It was slower than a stock GT in a test I saw. The body kit is for looks and it adds weight. The drag coefficient on our cars is horrible. The FR500 was probably the least wind resitant stang made. The hood covered the opening in front, and no rear spoiler/protruding side scoops etc.

We have made the side scoops on a 99+ functional

On the cars we have done there has been less brake fade but nothing too extream

But aleast the scoops are functional and not fake

You do have to be carefull because you are going to be cutting into the body of the car

i wouldnt try it unless you do have some fabrication experience

If you ripped off the scoop covers, you wll find a pair of rather large holes. All 99+ SN95's have those holes as they are required for assembly.

Yes, you can take off the inserts easily. I did. A placed called CCMustang makes replacement inserts which look a little more real.

Bumping an old thread... The 95 did have functional side scoops. I have one. They may not really cool the brakes, but they sure do make a burnout look cool with smoke belowing out of the scoops

Yep, I had a '95, and like the '94 models, the side scoops were functional (though some might argue if they were indeed effective). It has also been claimed that some early '96 models still had the functional side scoops too.
