YESTERDAY I WENT TO START THE CAR AND SOME SMOKE STARTED COMING FROM UNDER HOOD. I FOUND IT CAME FROM A FUSIBLE LINK COMING OUT OF THE WIRING HARNESS THAT RUNS RIGHT NEXT TO THE BRAKE BOOSTER. DOES ANY ONE HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THIS IS FOR AND SECONDLY WHAT ARE THE COMMON THING THAT CAUSE THIS TO BLOW?

I don't know what it was, but I have had a few go. If the wires touch any thing it will short to ground. Then it pops the fusible link. They are color coded so you can find them at most auto part stores.

wire colors? red wire from battery to fuseable link and either yellow/white or black/orange from fuseable link to component? but anyway if its one of these two color wires they connect to the integral alternator regulator...i would follow the wires and ensure there is not a break in the wire causing a ground....and another possibility if there is no breaks is a bad integral alternator regulator in which case i would remove the alternator and have it tested at a local autoparts store...
